Colourful boots for work?

Post by Mouse »

As you all know, I adjust my style for my work. However I have a feeling that most of the reasons I do this are in my head or Mrs Mouse's head. I have always used colour for my hosiery, but kept my boots/shoes normal colours. Last year I added my green Timberland Chelsea boots to my collection, which have been a great success with going in and out of clients houses. For 2025 I have been thinking of adding another pair of Chelsea boots to give some choice to the short flat boot selection. My initial idea was a set of DM Chelsea boots, but the ones I wanted are never on discount and they are also just black.

So, the advertisers on the internet were obviously on my track and therefore all manner of Chelsea boots started appearing in my Instagram and Twitter(X) feeds. One that got to me was a small Australian brand "Merry People" selling a rain boot made out of natural rubber with a neoprene lining, which was available in many colours. The model I was interested in is called the "Bobbi" and is available in a range of sizes up to UK12/EU45. https://uk.merrypeople.com/collections/ ... ngton-boot

Delivery to the UK was not a problem, but I wanted to see them in real life first, so I looked into their stockist in London. The place I found was in Clapton, London and is called the Tram Store. On the map it was not far from the Clapton Tube station in Hackney. So after work one day I made my way to Clapton and set out to find the shoe store. After walking down the road it was suppose to be on, no shoe store was apparent. Checking Google Earth further, I managed to find the Tram Store, which I had already walked past. https://www.tram-store.co.uk To the outside it is just a cafe in an old industrial building, but on entering you find it is a blend of cafe, meeting place, store, restaurant, film location.... To the side on one shelf, was a few Merry People Bobbi boots in different colours and no other shoes. There are plenty of other things to buy on the shelves, but it was in no way a shoe store. Inquiring at the cafe counter about the boots, quickly brought questions about my size, and the colour I wanted, shortly follows by boxes of boots from the store room. The colour I was initially interested in was the yellow with black soles, however in real life the yellow was a more mustard colour and while in the cafe the purple colour boots were talking to me. Turns out the Lavender/Navy Bobbi boots were being discontinued, they had a pair in a UK9/EU42, they felt nice on my feet, they were £4 cheaper than the price online, the purple pair are now called Orchid with a different colour sole....You know where this is going and I put a picture of me on Clapton station with a shoebox in a bag, a couple of days ago on my pics pages.

This is me in my standard work gear, purple Snag 80d tights and Merry people Bobbi Boots on a run to Tescos.

So yes I am pleased with my new boots. I have been to two clients so far in them and one immediately commented on my new boots with a smile.

I loved my shopping experience, made even better when one of the cafe staff told me that I had made an excellent choice pointing down at her lavender/navy Bobbi boots she was wearing.

I am happy with my new boots. I know they are just a set of short Wellington boots, but they look good, they are comfortable and with all the rain we are having here in the UK they are not a bad shout.

The Tram Store was just a nice place to go and hang out. It is not the easiest place to get to, with having get the Weaver Line out of Liverpool Street to get to Clapton, but it did feel like a BM meet up type of place. Of course I have no idea how packed it would be at a weekend, but on a late Tuesday morning there was plenty of space.

It's great to see a splash of colour outside the usual male parameters of navy, grey, black or chino (beige)

The boots are a nice touch and go well with your skirt and tights 8)

I lived the colour of them, I think the lighter pastell goes really well with the more vibrant tights.

Just so I do not mislead any one. The Lavender and Orchid colours are very different as shown in this instagram post https://www.instagram.com/p/DBN02GbSX-9/
I now realise why I was so surprised by the Lavender boots in the cafe, since I had not seen them on the Merry People website and didn't know they existed. I now find out that the colours change often, so if you see a cool colour you like, don't hang around.

I have those style of boots but in black. I’ve been wearing them a lot recently instead of my Doc Martens. They really look good worn with skirts. I’d love to get hold of them in lavender or purple. They look good in that colour with purple tights.
My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist. 8)

I think the lavender colour way has been discontinued for some time. However the Tram store had my pair in their stock and they might have a pair in your size if you give them a ring. On the other hand there are other stockist in the UK that may have stock of what you want.

I’ve always wanted one of their pairs, but between having too many shoes, not being able to decide on a color, I haven’t and probably will never get a pair. Glad to hear the positive reports on how they pair well with skirts!
