Paisley pattern midi skirt

Post by DrFishnets »

I seen a nice Paisley pattern midi skirt in my local Matalan today but I didn’t buy because I’m a bit shy in wearing it even though I’ve worn skirts in public before but it’s usually plain black skirts or tartan kilts I wear. However, I still tempted to buy as they have my size and they would look good with Doc Martens.

The wellies and the denim jacket certainly spoil the effect of the skirt. Why bother?

Reminds me of the time I was mentioning my love of women’s fashion to my psychologist and I told her that I would really like to wear that stuff out in public. Her reply to me was that “imagine that your lying on your deathbed and thinking and regretting of not doing stuff in your life and wishing you had wore that dress or skirt and pair of black sheer tights”. Her comment really made me think and it really made me want to do it. Fortunately, I found this forum which boosted my confidence to wear what I want to wear.

I can fix the jacket, but the boots stay......

On the other hand you can have a different jacket.....

Or we can remove the woman from the pic and just have the skirt....

To be fair, Matalan sell A range of clothes and I think they are just trying to get more of their clothes into every shot. I assume the model, just puts on what she is told to model by the market people.

Nice skirt for £15, and DrFishnets should go back to the shop and obtain it, or he could go here https://www.matalan.co.uk/clothing/blac ... 69706.html and buy it online. Then he can take his own pictures showing the skirt off to crfriend's required standards.... :)

There's a couple of things I remind myself of when I have my doubts:
One lady commented (Ellen)
"There’s nothing like the feeling of walking in a skirt in the summer- the warm breeze, light fabric billowing around you legs. It always seemed ridiculous and unfair that there was some unspoken, sexist barrier preventing men from wearing them." - she's right
And my wife came home and said:
"I saw a guy today, a rocker wearing a hankie hem skirt" - I thought if he can do it....

Cheers for the confidence boost. It’s true what that lady says. It’s great when women don’t understand why men don’t wear skirts and makes sense. I really like that skirt and I think it will look great with my new pair of Doc Martens and possibly black fishnet tights with a black waistcoat and scarf.

When I buy it, I’ll model the skirt with my finest fishnets and my cherry red Doc Martens and a black T-shirt and maybe black or burgundy waistcoat ;)

I’d wear a skirt like that in a New York minute! However, me being me, I’d add high heeled boots instead of flat boots.
I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman.

The skirt has an excellent color palette to work with :D

A burgundy shirt with a white or gold waistcoat would really set it off nicely

OR

a gold shirt with burgundy waistcoat. These colors easily match, and emphasize,
the accent colors in the skirt :D

Just my $.02 worth ;)

If you don't love it, pass it along my way -- I'll happily give it some exposure; sounds like several of the guys would be glad to do a round robin with it! Carl, I didn't know you Bay Staters knew about the universal Wellingtons footwear style, there is hope yet! :ugeek:

The thing is I really DO love the skirt and that’s why I wanted to share it on this forum. The only problem is that when I wear skirts I tend to wear skirts that are black or with darker solid colours though I love wearing my kilt from time to time. It’s the same reason I don’t wear fishnet tights or black sheer tights/pantyhose - I’d love to wear them but I fear it may draw a lot of attention (positive and negative) from the public.

You have to remember that "Nobody Cares". In your head there is a huge cavern between a black skirt and a black skirt with paisley pattern on it. In the wider world they are just two black skirts that a man is confidently wearing with his fishnet tights and DrMarten boots on a jaunt to the pub or shops.

Here's an idea, why not buy the skirt and wear it on a jaunt to London in October to Barleymower's http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24970 autumn get together? Sorry if I am pushing you, but I think you would enjoy it and would gain an immense amount of confidence and satisfaction.

I absolutely love the simple clause:

NOBODY CARES

I care if you like the Paisley skirt because I am interested in the topic of men wearing skirts. But. more generally, we seem to be moving towards a "nobody cares" what you wear. If you like it - wear it - nobody cares. People have more important things to worry about than your, or my, sartorial choices. Don't go too extreme, though, or people will make assumptions about you that you don't want them to make. Otherwise, as with the Paisley skirt, it's a sensible, comfortable garment and nobody cares.

The Paisley skirt is lovely - but probably not something I would choose to wear myself. But that doesn't matter. You do you. Be yourself. Don't let others dictate your life. Buy your skirt. Wear it. Enjoy the look and feel of it and, if doubts creep in, remember....

NOBODY CARES

I concur with Al on that. The skirt is magnificent. I'd pair it with a burgundy waistcoat and a white dress shirt along with nice stockings and shoes.

It was the way the skirt was accessorized that put me off.
