Skirts in foreign lands
I'm going to be doing a bit of traveling in Italy this year, and while I will be in boring pants (as it is with family) I got to thinking - there hasn't been a big discussion of where MIS are accepted. Honestly, based on the variety of countries folks post from, and stuff I see on Reddit, the answer is "everywhere". That being said, it might be nice to hear of people's travels and where they've ventured - locally or otherwise.
(and gosh - I really hope there isn't a thread like this already)
So I'll start - America. Plenty of folk from here post about acceptance across this country - from unexpected places that some would consider "backwater towns" to obvious places like progressive areas of the country. All in all, it seems like a safe place.

I skirted in Melbourne last year, no issues at all. I will be venturing out in Perth in a few weeks, not anticipating any there either.

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I've just returned from a two-week holiday in Southern Turkey where I wore a skirt all the time. It was in an area frequented more by Turkish tourists rather than foreign tourists, and I had no problems at all. Most people probably didn't even notice, a few stared a bit and the only actual comment I got was in a shop where the lady serving was most complimentary. Perhaps the real highlight though was that my OH, who normally wears shorts when we are out on holiday, asked to borrow one of my skirts as "they are much cooler to wear in the heat" so we were out skirted together.
Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I have skirted all over the UK and not had problems.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

I would be very careful if you visit fundamentalist Muslim countries. In many of these countries it ia against the law to crossdress and you can be jailed and possibly flogged. Be very careful out there.

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
In many instances pants are practical - but for a tourist trip I could see skirts being very practical, especially during heat or times of rain.
I’ll be honest - I DO find pants boring - it’s an opinion not a fact - I’ve been forced to wear them all my life by a society who doesn’t care about me except what I’m wearing down below.
Hopefully the latter part is changing, which is why I started this thread.

In Belgium it's fine, granted that you avoid certain areas that are usually not interresting, "night" hours (quotes matter), etc. But that doesn't relate to the skirt itself, no matter what you look like you could be targeted by bad people :-/
Yes, a lot of places are now insecure in Belgium.

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I suspect your answer of "everywhere" is pretty close to accurate. I have not been full time in skirts until more recent years; and prior to that it was often sporadic, limited or while on vacation/travels -- and those too often were tourist spots where you can have a little incognito escape, so those times are not very indicative of overall acceptance. If I look back to the earliest days of putting on a skirt in at least a somewhat public place -- my quick count is 39 countries; mostly in the Americas, Pacific, South Pacific Oceania, NZ, AU, some of Indonesia. I've not much more than touched ground in most of Europe and the northern countries there -- but from the Northwest Territories (then) of Canada to Argentina, through the Caribbean Islands, to down under (most of the eastern half of AU, all of NZ and some S. Pacific Island nations; Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore I have spent a fair bit of time skirted. Very little of the time in the NWT was skirted -- too long ago, too cold and too many black flies and mosquitos, but enough to say I had no pushback in the few times wearing a skirt, mostly with friends at home or maybe an evening out for a meal. Early days would have been pretty benign skirts-- knee or longer blue denim, or a fake kilt-like item for a festivity, but the history, though sporadic & limited in exposure tends to support that on much of the globe, folks don't care what you wear. Tourists are for the most part recognized and forgiven a lot of 'infractions' (hey, they may be spending money).Coder wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 3:05 am I'm going to be doing a bit of traveling - there hasn't been a big discussion of where MIS are accepted. I’m planning to spend a full week in Fuertventura this coming August, I will be skirted from the moment I leave home and drive to Liverpool airport and park up then fly to Fuertventura and then travel by coach to my hotel. While at the hotel I will be wearing all kinds of skirts each and every day, all day, except when I’m topping up my tan of course
. I did it last year and had no negative comments at all, in fact I didn’t get any comments from anyone, the only people I did notice with wide grins were the reception staff at the hotel. Other than that the week went perfect for me.
Always happy when wearing a skirt.
Re: Skirts in foreign lands
Alongside around the UK, I've worn skirts in Spain, Gran Canaria and most recently Turkey so far.
All good experiences and didn't encounter any problems.
Haven't got to the point of wearing a skirt on a plane yet but it's something I would be open to trying.

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
Wearing a skirt last year travelling to Fuertventura received no comments from anyone, even going through security was a breeze, for some reason I set off the scanner and had to stand still in a second scanner with my arms raised but got no comments and no obvious stares even. The only reaction I noticed was getting off the plane, when I stood up to get my bag out of the overhead lockers a flight attendant smiled at me when she saw my skirt, but didn’t comment.
Always happy when wearing a skirt.

I have good experiences from all European countries in which I have traveled. In Denmark, Germany, and Sweden you can weare whatever you like, witout any questioning it

I have had no bad experiences in Australia, cities or remote areas, despite the obvious scarcity of male skirt wearers here.
