Running Skirt
I am not sure if this has been posted before, But I am curious how many here wear a running skirt when doing any kind of fitness. I have recently been reading the reveiws of runners who are looking for a better option than shorts that cause chafing, especially for long distance runners that sweet. I have read some good reviews about the running skirt and how it would be a good idea for men. I have ordered one out of curiosity to see what they are like for those long distant mountain runs. I know there are sport kilt out there and for hiking they are great, but for running a little less practical. So does anyone wear a running skirt?

Re: Running Skirt
I have two running skirts from this link:
http://www.skirtsports.com/
I believe these folks were the orginators of the running skirt - originally TRIKS (Skirt(s) spelled backwards).
A thin nylon stretchy skirt about 16 inches in hem length.
I also have one swim cover-up skirt (14 inches in length) similiar to this ebay item link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Swim-Cover-up ... 45fb479a76
When worn with or without minimal underwear these are a breeze with no adverse chafing or other problems.
Ideal wear for running at or near the beach or a city marathon.
Maybe you would want the SportKilt Hiking Kilt for a mountain marathon
The SportKilt which due to its heavier construction and fabric content it is just in my opinion not suitable for running.
Great for the hiking experience but too much material for an athletic workout (running).
I also have several skorts suitable for running but not for a major event (10k or marathon).
The skorts do however offer support (internal compression shorts) and offer a degree of warmth in colder events.
An alternative would be to take a pair of nylon running shorts and cut out the inner liner panty but you would still have
fabric between the legs. Running Skirts are the way to go for minimal resistance - interference.
Of course the usual cautions apply when worn sans underwear - the olympic Greeks had it right - go ala-natural. LOL !!!

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Running Skirt
I have just order a running skirt from a distributor for runningskirt.com. I ordered the black running skirt with briefs. I was amazed at the response from the lady who runs this business in Australia. She talked with me like I was just buying guys clothes. She even asked me if I was needing it for an up coming marathon run next weekened. We all know that SA's are there for the dollar, but this woman really wasn't moved like it was very normal for guys to buy the running skirt. It really looks like society is possibly on the change as people are starting to accept guys wearing skirts. I really think, If a guy looks good in a skirt and it fits well and adds to his manlihood then people will be in full support.

Re: Running Skirt
As it happens I saw a girl wearing what looked like a running skirt yesterday in my local town, although she was with a friend and didn't appear to be engaged in any sports activity. It was simple enough garment which in the right size could suit a man.

Re: Running Skirt
It's funny I've never seen a "running skirts" in any athletic events
Re: Running Skirt
I've been intrigued by running skirts, myself, and have wanted to ask a woman how/why she likes wearing them. Without actually trying them, I don't see any advantage to them (beyond asthetic considerations) since the chaffing while running comes as much from skin rubbing together as it does from rubbing fabric. As an experienced runner, the best advice I can give about preventing chafing is to use a product called "Body glide," and use it in the danger areas. When the weather gets colder, tights are the best way to go.
Re: Running Skirt
Nolyn: Running skirts do feel quite a bit like lightweight running shorts. The material is almost not there in some shorts anyways so you are right that they are more of a style choice then practical one. Almost all running skirts have some sort of shorts built in anyways, only Nike has a plain model out. I cannot offer an opinion on the Nike unlined skirt, other then it just did not sit right on me. I do have a couple others, including an Adidas Marathon 10 skirt/skort that I am about to go for a run in right now.

Re: Running Skirt
You will not notice the skirt if you are paying attention to the footwear !?
Rockpup does a good job of that - redirecting your attention !
He does have the concept down pat and appears to be very comfortable with that.
Pure running is minimalist at best and a running skirt fits it to the t.
For an intense work-out carry weights in the hands and perhaps add a weighted waist belt.

Rma: Eh, just getting back into running after illness/injury. Not going to push that hard yet
Nolyn: Thanks, I've really been enjoying the Vibram Fivefingers. My feet are just a bit too small to fit into the mens colors, but I am fortunate that I do like some of the womens colors. These are a bit bright being Magenta/Orange.

Re: Running Skirt
I run in my North Face hiking skirt. See http://www.justforcamping.co.uk/The-Nor ... irt_i19710 or, if they've sold out and the linked page has disappeared, look at page 6 of my pics thread. At 19" long and not hugely flared or pleated, it could be a tad restrictive if I was to try to run very fast. Fortunately that is not likely to be a problem any time soon!
Keep on skirting,
Alastair

Re: Running Skirt
I ran my last 3 marathons in a running skirt from running skirts.com. I covered the girls with a Celtic dragon. Very comfortable and cool in hot sun. I did have to add a drawstring since my hips don't hold it up when I sweat.

Given how short those skirts are, I hope you covered the "boys" with something as well!

Running Kilts http://www.runningkilts.com/42.html. This is simple option. I purchased one and the material is like most athletic shorts. I wear mine often for hiking, running, and golf. The owner even provides instructions if you want to make your own.
