Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
After they got settled in their seats a woman sitting across the aisle
from him leaned over to him and asked, "Are all of those kids yours?"
He replied, ”No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints."
I WISH I COULD THINK THAT QUICKLY!

When asked 'Why the Kilt?'
I respond-The why is F.T.H.O.I. (For The H--- Of It)
I was in a local Restaurant a few months back waiting to pay at the till when a guy also waiting blurted out like a petulant child "AT LEAST I REMEMBERED TO PUT MY TROUSERS ON"
The manageress who had come to know me over a period of time immediatly responded " And a very sensable beige they are too, nurse is going to be so proud of you when I tell her. He blushed paid his check and left .Jenny's aside to me" Bloody bigot"
Just shows you don't always have to fight your own corner

I've heard that one plenty of times and have a (imho)great retort. Me: That's great, Sir, by the way, where did you park your horse, seeing as trousers were invented to protect a man's legs from the rough skin on the sides of a horse. I personally, don't NEED a horse, so, transversely, also do not need trousers. Thanks for your input, Sir!

IN PUBLIC: On a "Kilted" day, about 2 years ago, an 8-9 year old girl told me loudly, "Men don't wear skirts!" When I replied, "Some do.... and if you're a girl where's your skirt? (she was wearing jeans). Her mother immediately called me an "ASSHOLE." to which I immediately replied, "That's better than being rude." ( I may have said "...rude and stupid.") But I only claim the rude part. JAYCE
To Jayce's post, I'd like to say that this is precisely the sort of "high road" response that we need to cultivate. Calling the little one "stupid", whilst perhaps accurate, could generate needless friction, but from everything else that was handled superbly. NICE!
Once in a while, we who wear skirts in contravention of "Western norms" are bound to take some heat; what should distinguish us from the herd mentaility, I would hope, is our intellect and tact.

I've been publically skirted since 2005 and often get similar remarks from less than 7 year old girls. I find tho, taking the time to explain to her how the world is changing, just as she is not wearing a skirt but wearing "more comfy to her, pants" I prefer to wear "more comfy to me, skirts" gets a positive reaction more than 99% of the time and often brings their parent into the conversation and has them leaving with a positive feeling about me and the future.
I always thought getting into a bickering match with a 5-7 year old showed me as nothing but a big mouthed bully, which I'd really rather not be. As to any unkind comments from mothers, I just consider the source and walk away.

That was abundantly clear given the original text. Hammering the mother was precisely the right thing to do. Nicely done.
The child is innocent in this case given limited experience in the world; Mommy should have known better and should have comported herself in a more dignified manner.

Hasn't been any entertaining repartee at the checkout here much, but in front of me in the queue one day recently an old chap's pants did fall down! He just hauled them up and no-one took any notice. I had on my favourite black tailored skirt at the time. Always good reaction to that. Might get the odd raised eyebrow from older blokes to the Macabis though.
