Considering my March 14 post, I think it might look good to apply smocking to a man's dress shirt, and skip neck wear.

I have to remember something-its been years since I made the leap into MIS. One becomes adapted.

On the other hand, there may be men who are considering MIS, but may otherwise stick to garments from the male side of the aisle. Defying the Taboo alone, without trying other modes of self expression, may be daunting enough.

I have been teafung Grok's style thread with interest. There are lots of ideas for men to widen their clothing choices and lots of reports from various guys who on one side of the spectrum wear everything and the other side of the spectum, guys who would wear a kilt or maybe a denim skirt.
The options are there and yet here we are with this small group of mavericks wearing skirts, dresses and some makeup maybe. The general population is firmly locked in the binary system. If there is a break out in binary system it won't be long before social media crushes it as woke or other crime.

We can offer as many options as we like bit nothing will change unless the taboo is properly addressed. Who is holding the keys to male freedom and why was the door locked in the first place?

The entire outfit matters. Here is a skirt recently made by YouTuber 'The closet historian', and the outfits pairings she shows in the video in which she made the garment do not work in my opinion:

A few videos later, she made a jacket that's in a similar colour, with a similarly elaborate design, and it pairs perfectly with the previously mentioned skirt:

It is not possible to just take a skirt (or any other item of clothing) and pair it haphazardly with other things, the result in most cases will not work. 'Woman's' skirts by and large do not pair well with 'menswear' upper garments due to clashes in visual line and visual language.

Menswear items generally pair ok with other menswear items without much thought because 'menswear' is based on a very limited design language. It works because it was designed to work wholistically as a system.

Also, as I have said numerous times before, male and female bodies are not the same shape. Garments need to be harmonious with the shape of the underlying body. Most woman's skirts look really awkward on a man because the shape of the skirt in the waist and hips is wrong for a typical male figure.

Yes, adding more detail to the upper body would help counterbalance a more ruffly lower body.

"...without much thought...." Yes. Garments such as mens trousers and mens shirts are limited to only a handful of styles. Color? Generally dull or bland. Mens wear could almost be described as stereotyped. Particularly mens trouser suits.

Regarding the link in my last post....

Note the use of purple at 0:43 and 4:25. The trend towards male drab, starting with the Great Renunciation, is particularly lame.

The problem is that men's clothing is square and thus fits in the square hole where the man is expected to fit.
Then along comes a man in a skirt, which is round and won't fit in that square hole where he's supposed to be.
A full time skirt wearer since 2020.
