I am a British expat living in the far west suburbs of Chicago, and I have been exploring the whole "skirt thing" for a few months. What started out as just a little dress up fun with a girlfriend has culminated in me checking out the female clothing at the local Thrift store, where I have a acquired a few black skirts of various lengths.

Although I mostly wear the skirts around the house, I have been out in public on more than one occasion. Never one who likes drawing attention to myself, wearing a skirt outside requires a little bit on courage on my part. I will also admit there is also a element of thrill associated with it, the feeling that comes with breaking the cultural norm, and still remain confident.

I have quickly grown to love the feel of skirts in addition to the look. Although initially upset with my going out in a skirt, the wife is supportive and even made me a leather kilt. She plans to make more for me Granted, the items I have been wearing so far are definitely not kilts and I certainly don't want to limit myself to just kilts.

I am delighted to find this group, and hopefully learn a thing or two from the people on this forum.

My wife and I are both "poly" - meaning we have loving relationships outside of the marriage. So the answer would be YES.

In fact, I would say that being open about our lifestyle with friends and family and not feeling ashamed, has given be the courage to pursue the interest in wearing skirts.

It is the girlfriend who encourages the skirt wearing. In fact, if she had her way, she would have me wearing more women's clothes plus frilly stuff that I don't necessary care for. I am still very much in the experiment phase, discovering the clothing that I feel most comfortable in. I explained in another forum that I have drawn confidence from her, but have yet to venture out in "on my own."

Unfortunately, a lot of girlfriends of skirt wearing men DO want to treat their man as a mannequin to be dressed up with what they think would look stylish, but they don't think it through very well. The man doesn't want to upset his girlfriend, but he does have to put his foot down on overly FEM things she wants him to try. That is of course, IF he does want to stay with "Manly skirts/MUGs etc."

Why can't a couple have fun dressing up, roleplaying, etc? As you saw in another thread of mine, my wife dressed me up and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course I wouldn't dress that way normally, but I had no problems dressing up for fun and games.

There is a also a role-playing aspect to my relationship with my girlfriend, but that is a separate thing altogether

They can, what a couple does in the privacy of their own home is their own business. If he wants to dress as a bond slave and she with a motorcycle policeman's cap and whip, no problem, private business again..However, the same outfits in public may have a completely different effect on the neighbors.

Skip, what I meant was that if the SO is overdressing their mate for the purpose of "home-play" it should be fun and adventuresome. I didn't realize you were refering to dressing their men for the purpose of wearing said clothes in public.

I wasn't. I thought I made it very clear that it was OK wherever you wanted to do it. I just said you might get an untoward reaction if you didn't keep it inside. I've said this before, I'm not very devious, what I say means exactly that, no hidden meanings. I'm very dull and taciturn, and the older I get the duller and more taciturn I get.

It's bad enough having women tell you "you're wearing that to the party???" when you are dressed in pants and shirt, without having them choose what skirt you should wear too.

Actually, while I value my wife's opinion when it comes to the clothes I put on my back, it ultimately comes down to what I like to wear. Our clothes are more than pieces of fabric to keep us warm or cool or protect our modesty. They are an public expression of our personality, our individuality. When someone tries to force you to dress a certain way, in a some respect they are denying you the right to be yourself. That's not to say they can't encourage you to change your appearance, to express yourself more - just as long as it isn't suffocating.
