This morning, had a job interview, so it was t-shirt and jeans. Did change into a traditional tartan kilt afterward, tho. So, black t-shirt, Armstrong tartan kilt, lovat green kilt hose with bottle green flashes, and a pair of hiking boots. More comfy in the summer weather than the jeans were, that's for sure.

Today nothing
well, nothing skirted anyway
but yesterday I returned to the UK from Barcelona where for the last three days I've been confusing the locals by wearing a short (15") olive green combat skirt or a black denim Union Kilt while out and about in the evenings. I earned one wolf whistle and a couple of "hey Amigo"s down by the Olympic marina and had a little more than my fair share of attention from bar staff and flight attendants. Both were mixed with short sleeved button down shirts in a variety of solid colours.
I noted a fair number of quizzical looks, more than I'd expect in the UK, but generally responses ranged between not noticing and smiles.
Even though I've gone skirted in Barcelona many times before, it was strangely difficult to get out of the door skirted the first day in town, not knowing whether I'd be able to understand the comments thrown at me - no problem the next day.
Have fun,
Ian.

Do not argue with idiots; they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

That part went well, but I got bypassed. So, I guess I just have to keep pluggin' away.
Anyway, today was rather crummy weather-wise, so I went with the Armstrong tartan 9-yarder, bottle green kilt hose, running shoes (ankle's been bothering me a bit over the past few days, so wore what's comfortable), black t-shirt, and a fleece jacket.
Drove to Whidbey Island (about 50 miles from here, including a 20 minute ferry ride) to visit a kilt shop for some items that I need for Saturday, when I will be participating in my sister's wedding reception.

A Maiden Voyage for me today. I wore my Workilt to work. I made it according to the typical Utilikilt idea. I have never really gone skirted in public, except for my gown/habit on Sunday, but that is pretty normal, I could simply be a priest going from one place to another if he serves more than one parish, and has no time to vest in between.
I got a few comments, mostly joking about "what's up with the skirt" and "what are you WEARING?". Some people looked puzzled but said nothing. I deal with farmers in my work, so it is a very boxed in worldview and attitude. I think it looked enough like a trad kilt that fears were allayed. It was windy, and gusty but no mishaps. It was super comfortable.
The kilt is a chocolate brown heavy twill (the heaviest you can get), with a brown leather belt, I wore a soft plaid long sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up in a mix of off white, green, camel/brown, and reddy purple. The brown in the shirt matched the brown in the kilt. My boots were kneehigh black rubbers for my work, they are mandatory. I just wore a company navy ball cap for headgear.
My first time going in a skirt for all day away from home out in public... Got home and my former clergyman was standing in the yard with his wife and my parents talking, so I got the mixed reception there...I think they were not impressed (they are fundy types, with very strict notions of what is what and how people should look and act) Other than that it went well.

Well, I had to run some errands this morning, shopping, etc. I wore a kneelength brown kilt skirt, black socks just below the knee, brown leather walking shoes, a brown plaid shirt and a brown/brown/black crew neck sweater. No hat. I had no one react either way to what I was wearing.
I put on coveralls to work outside, then spent the afternoon inside studying and practicing music in an ankle length grey and black bias cut A-line wool skirt and a navy sweater...
woohoo...

I had an appointment at the local general hospital this morning, so I decided I could wear a skirt and change before going into the office. I chose a long (42") A line black skirt with two huge pleats, one front and one at the rear. This skirt has a 92" hem when the pleats are factored in, so it does not inhibit my stride at all. I wore it with a short sleeved button down shirt in a dark green / grey and black socks and lace up shoes. (These days I'm not sure I should admit to wearing men's shoes with a skirt, but I seem to have men's feet so somehow men's shoes felt appropriate...)
I got a few sidelong glances in the town centre and main hospital reception but within the department no one said anything or paid any discernible attention.
Shame I had to change out of it to go back to the office.
Have fun,
Ian.

yesterday at the theatre
My wife and I went to see Monty Python's "Spamalot" in Denver yesterday and I wore a light-weight Sportkilt. We saw another guy in a kilt and sporran; we nodded and smiled at each other.
It was breezy afterwards as we walked back to the car. As we walked along the street, a woman in a passing car leaned out the window and said loudly "I wish the wind would blow right now". Just then an extra gust did blow. My kilt was fine but it knocked some papers out of the basket of a passing bicyclist (which I retrieved). Be careful what you wish for. A fun show and a good outing.
