About the shortest skirt I'm comfortable with forms just about a square when laid out flat. The one I was wearing yesterday is quite clearly a rectangle, with the length as the short dimension. (38" waist, 14" skirt) It even passes the "mini" test (my fingertips extend below the hem); however, to be perfectly honest, it's way too short to be modest in, but it does show off my legs....AndrewH wrote:My rule of thumb for myself is that, if the skirt is laid flat, it should be longer than it is wide!
At 38" 'round the middle, I'm not exactly skinny, but at 6'4" that makes up for it a little bit.AndrewH wrote:Of course, those of you who are slender and younger may get away with a different rule!
And this, surely, is the essence of "skirtsmanship". It takes a lot of skill and panache not only to wear the skirt but PRESENT it as a legitimate, acceptable, and ATTRACTIVE men's garment!Bravehearts.us wrote:Fashion freedom is one thing. A sense of fashion is a whole other matter. Sure you can throw on a bunch of “stuff” and go out the door looking like a clown. A guy could be getting a bunch of laughs that have nothing to do with the skirt he’s wearing. Best to find someone who can match up clothes before you make a statement you’ll regret. Just because it’s casual Friday doesn’t mean you have to traumatize the whole office.
That seems to be an indirect way of saying that you think I look stupid."Any man would look stupid in such a short skirt - no matter how old or young he was." http://tinyurl.com/yc2fpd
My sentiments exactly.
Wow, I still manage to learn something new every day. Those are some really short skirts there. Although browsing through the gallery gave me the idea of picking up a denim skirt or something one day and adding patches and other imagery to it. Hmm... if I can find some more denim bell bottoms I would probably do it to them as well. As it stands I only have one pair, and other than tattered bottoms (can't think of what you'd call the bottom of the legs) they are in quite good shape. Besides, tatters always look nice on denim :ninjajig:ChristopherJ wrote:I must say, it came a huge shock to me that such a thing as MICRO skirts even existed.
Yeah - I know. It's really difficult to take a decent photograph of a short skirt because, as you say, it often looks just like boys shorts. Black is very difficult to photograph - very.Looks more like a pair of black shorts to me....
The link to your picture was from a post I was going to make about the leg warmers. I use to wear them all the time in the ‘80’s. They don’t fit anything you are wearing and they are out dated. The link wasn’t meant to be in the post about the short skirt on eBay. That was a cut and paste error…good reason to preview all posts. Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply you looked stupid. But I do think that those skirts on eBay do look ridiculous no matter who they’re on.ChristopherJ wrote:That seems to be an indirect way of saying that you think I look stupid.
If that is what you believe, then just say so. I won't be offended - as everyone is entitled to their own opinion - which I shall promptly ignore
I know that leg warmers were all the rage back in the 1980's. I can remember it well. But you're wrong when you say they are out dated now - they are back in fashion with a bang. I've had several women ask me where I got those in the photo. The link to your picture was from a post I was going to make about the leg warmers. I use to wear them all the time in the ‘80’s. I suspect that some of the comments on the mini-with-leg-warmers were based on the overall "first glance" at the rig in question. The "look" that the outfit suggests seems "bottom heavy" in that there's a lot of bulk towards the lower extremeties that throws the balance off. At least that's my take on it.ChristopherJ wrote:I know that leg warmers were all the rage back in the 1980's.
Agree with your opinion, wholeheartedly! Don't think I've ever seen them 'in the outside world'. Don't think I ever want to..................... :shake:crfriend wrote:I suspect that some of the comments on the mini-with-leg-warmers were based on the overall "first glance" at the rig in question. Leg warmers, for what it's worth, are "dead as doornails" here in the US; I haven't seen so much as a singleintance in the past decade. So that may have been another source of comment.
Yes - I agree with that as well. Thing was - at the time those photos were taken - I only had one pair of leg warmers, as the weather here in the UK had been very mild. It is now bloody freezing - and so I have bought 2 other pairs - ones that are less bulky and that don't look "bottom heavy".I suspect that some of the comments on the mini-with-leg-warmers were based on the overall "first glance" at the rig in question. A friend of mine own Midas clothing and he has some great designs for men in skirts and dresses.imadube wrote:It is a shame I don't have the money and freedom, but I have some ideas to make skirts for men that in the market place would turn even the most sceptical people. Would love to start a line of clothing with man skirts in mind, but no cash nor am I a designer just ideas.
It is a real shame that all those people making man skirts are so traditional to be doing "kilted" clothing and not more modern skirts.
