Skirt shoping questions
Skirt shoping questions
is skirt shoping seasonal? and sizing. whats up with that?
I just bought My first skirt. a olive colored cargo. a tommy hilfiger size 2 19in long. fits great. bought it at a outlet mall.
looking around in stores im seeing few selections. today at walmart I saw one I liked but they only had size 12 and up.
I have figured out that the odd sizes are junors and the ultra low rise and the even sizes are misses with not so low rise. and a 4/5 is the same waist size.
Im looking for a demin cargo but they seem to be out of style. any thoughts?

Sizing is weird. One time I had a size 11 that was too big and a size 13 that was too small. Go figure.
I don't know how many of what sizes of clothes retailers get, but they seem to sell out of the middle sizes first, leaving the smallest and largest on the rack. Whether that particular style will be restocked is anyone's guess.
I haven't figured out what's in style when. Good luck in finding what you're looking for.

AloofGuru, sizing
I think the sizing has to do with where they were made. A lot of clothes today are made in offshore(outside the USA/UK) sweatshops and the sizing is probably different in Mexico than Pakistan and again different in China and so on from country to country. The quality can be vastly different also, some countries using quality material and thread, others using the cheapest they can get. A good quality brand that I like is "Main Street Blues" and is made in Pakistan. Main Street is still making lots of different kinds of skirts and several different types of the style I like best. Their denim, khaki and twill straight skirts are my favorites. These are new and bought online by me. I use Roaman's, Lane Bryant and other online stores that carry plus sizes as well as normal and petite sizes. Looks like you need petite sizes.
I'd think purchasing skirts in thrift stores would be the best idea if you're of a size that is carried in most stores. Much cheaper, already proven to be well made because they didn't fall apart for the original buyers. Also a better chance to find originally higher priced brands than you can perhaps afford when buying new. I'd think with the nearly completely trousered female population there would be a lot of skirts in thrift shops.

It's even worse, Skip: Some of the larger chain stores specify what constitutes a six or an eight and that can vary significantly from their competitors. Yeah, it defies logic, but that's how weird the fashion industry can get. (You'd be right if you think that it gets even weirder still....it does!)Since1982 wrote:I think the sizing has to do with where they were made. I'm with ya on that Dan
I've seen some top line fashion designers ideas of what a skirt on a guy should look like and I think that those ideas will NEVER catch on. All the models look sooo sloppy and sick, all the clothes are wrinkled and the wrong size for the persons wearing them. Geez, It sure would be great if someone (maybe you) could get a show with neat looking models and neat looking clothes. Then we might actually have a chance at starting a trend.

skirt shopping questions
I have had all the same problems with sizing. I find the low rise juniors to be the best fit as the waste is larger for the same size ment to be worn higher up. The waste to hip ratio is better for a man in the low rise styles. I have short legs so mini skirts are about the same length as I wear my shorts. The way I check skirts for size is to take a pair of shorts or a skirt that fits right and hold them up from my finger tip to my elbow and note where they fall on the elbow . When in the store make sure the waste is closed and just measure from finger tip to elbow. For me it works out to right where the elbow bends. This beats having to bring a tape measure with you when ever you go shopping or having to try on several skirts or pants at the store.
My understanding of Petete means short not neccarly small. Yes for a Guy I am small. 5'8'' tall 140lb 28 waist size 6.5 or 7 in mens shoes. the standard guy sizes dont work very well for me. so I seem to have better luck in the womens department. due to the differnce in sizes between brands i am sceptial about shopping online but i do like your thrift store or consignment shop idea.
quick question. You were talking about low rise and junors. any I confused. what ive saw is misses being labled low rise and juniors lables ultra low rise. only differnce i could see is the zipper is a inch shorter.
Ive heard some one here mention they had a string with 2 washers on it to check waist size like you do with your arm

Rather than putting in another reply, I think AloofGuru is using the term "aloof" as defined as standing off or away from others, aloof can also mean thinking ones self as being "better" than anyone else. Calling oneself a "guru" is perpetuating the idea that in some field or another you are better than anyone else also. I'm not assuming that AloofGuru meant it in this way, perhaps he didn't know the actual meanings of the words.
This is my opinion, you can agree or disagree. Opinions are like noses, everyone has one, even Michael Jackson, it's his nose, even though it's plastic, he bought and paid for it.

i think there might be a trans-literation involved here. i believe he might be a guru about LOOFA! it's very easy for this type of mis-understanding to occur, especially on an international message board.
i, for one, could use a little enlightenment in regards to loofa!
you know... george orwell warned us!
