The good weather prompted a trip to Oxford today, wore my Black Watch brecan with navy socks and plain black trainer style shoes. Didn’t see anyone else in a MUG.

I spent a few hours touring the colleges, browsed in Blackwells bookshop and bought a couple of CDs in HMV and got a few interested looks absolutely no comments, positive or negative, from anyone in the shops or tourists. Much the same reaction when I was in London last Sunday afternoon.

When I first wore a kilt in public a couple of years ago, I got quite a few reactions (tourists wanted photos, teenagers ragged – a busker even struck up ‘Donald where’s your trousers?’) Seems kilts are a non-issue, even if not common. So if anyone out there is trying to pluck up courage to step out, start with a kilt you won't look back.

While going through airport security in a skirt this morning, got an interesting comment from the TSA officer that he loved the skirt (seriously). He and one other officer said they had sport kilts and were considering Ultilikilts. It was a fun discussion and took me by surprise. He commented that they saw several MUGs a week.

Denim skirts are also a non-issue. So long as you team it up with appropriately masculine accompaniments, it's like you're wearing a pair of denim shorts for all the notice people take! :cloudnine:

well, I wore a 17" hipster kilt on an airline flight but i would recommend against it unless you're going first class!

at the airport was no big problem. but getting in and out of airline seats meant constantly adjusting the pleats, and while sitting down in a cramped position, which those planes make neccessary, meant the thing rode up my legs too far to be comfortable and was too awkward to adjust.

bending down to reach beneath the seat in front to get stuff or having to get up for people going to the toilet meant constantly having to adjust the pleats or be on guard against the kilt riding up too high.

from now on, it's jeans for flying, or else maybe sarongs, or perhaps much longer skirts!
The only thing man cannot endure is meaninglessness.

probably a good idea to wear MUGs that are at least lower knee or longer on planes. You never know what other people might say or do to mess up your day. I took a short trip from here to MIA on a small Delta shuttle flight wearing a knee length khaki straight skirt with a rear slit and had 2 separate people tell the stew that they could see my private area. It was bolony but got unwanted attention anyway. They asked me if I could change into something longer even after I showed them the top edge of my underpants. So I went into the tiny lavatory and changed into a lower mid calf A-line skirt and had no more problems. I always carry a couple of spare skirts in my carry on bag. Ya never know when something might get spilled on what you're wearing. :shake:

So these people had nothing better to look at? Sounds like they were guilty of voyeurism :shifty:

more likely they were guilty of boredom and were mad at the world because of the plane delays. I was handy so they took it out on me.

Today's outfit will be, from toes to neck:

New Balance running shoes
Black trouser socks
navy blue pleated skirt
(possibly) black Survival UK layered on top
navy blue t-shirt.

Today?

Post by crfriend »

Today was a "day off" from work (if you can call it that because I spent four hours logged in from home soling problems) because I didn't get any sleep last night. When The Wife and I went to lunch I had on my black peasant skirt, a white dress shirt, and a dark green sweater over that.

When we got back, I took a nap, and then went outside to clear some brush and a few stumps from the yard (still wearing the skirt). I can well imagine the questions from a naive youngster: "Mommy, why's that man wearing a skirt? I don't know, sweetie, but he's also swinging a rather large and nasty-looking axe, so we'd best not ask."

... and NO comments about lumberjacks! :D

Later

Post by Since1982 »

Later today I plan on hitting the grocery and then even later than that, Bingo. I'm already dressed for the day and am wearing a very nautical looking ensemble. Navy blue T-shirt, white twill mid calf straight skirt with black cotton slip and briefs. The skirt has huge side pockets. For footwear I'm wearing Birkenstock sandals with no socks. Those Lane Bryant skirts I have bought recently have side pockets big enough to put an entire Polaroid land camera in "with" the film packet. I'm really not sure that they weren't actually made in Pakistan FOR men. The pockets are far larger than any pockets I've ever seen on a woman's skirt. There are 3 pockets, 2 large side ones and a very deep "watch" pocket that's great for sticking a roll of cash in, if you like carrying cash as I do (I need cash for Bingo).

Hi folks,
Just a quick note on a sunny spring morning as I head off to a concert of chamber music (clarinet trio), wearing my best ankle-length denim skirt (it's a classy piece, a cut above most denim skirts). It means a steady stroll through a park to get there. Should be fun.

Best wishes,
Ash

Legs

Post by ChrisM »

Frankie I'm simply curious: How does the legwear go over with other people? I'm more or less comfortable with my skirts, but I haven't yet grown the cojones to wear stockings and heels. Was there a 'learning period' with your co-workers? Basically all the same questions as are usually applied to skirts, but this time about legwear!

And one last, do you shave your legs?

Thanks. Sorry to be so invasive but they are honest questions. I like the look, and admire both your courage and the apparent acceptance of it.

Best regards,

Chris

Twill

Post by Since1982 »

Back to the thread .... I'm headed out to the local Birkenstock store today to have the wedges taken out of my new Milanos, I am flat footed from polio and cant stand the arches in these sandals so Birkenstock says they will be glad to remove the arches from the shoes. I'm wearing a navy blue twill straight skirt that originally was A-line but I altered it to straight. Normal underthings, Navy blue T-shirt and my old tired vinyl loafers. Good day all :)
