This seems to be a discussion about using Orion spacecraft for a manned flyby of Venus.
Re: New Technologies
Interesting, but thats gonna take a long time in such a tiny spacecraft. Not to mention it might be hard to protect from any radiation bursts.Grok wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2026 6:28 am This seems to be a discussion about using Orion spacecraft for a manned flyby of Venus.
I wish they would pick up development of the Nerva again and get an actual nuclear rocket into orbit. Would be good to get going with these if they really plan to build a moon base.

Re: New Technologies
Manned flybys of Venus have been described as having a duration of about a year.
NERVA was an experimental design, tested on the ground. Basically, squirting rocket fuel through a nuclear reactor. Was intended for manned missions to Mars.
