Amtrak trip across the country
Amtrak trip across the country
My wife & I will be taking Amtrak "Empire Builder" train from Chicago to Seattle in mud July. There will be 4 nights on the train, with a 2 night stopover in Glacier National Park. We will have a bedroom sleeping compartment. There will also be 2 nights in Seattle. I plan to bring several skirts. All of my skirts are long, mid calf to ankle length. Is there anything I need to know, or take into account for the trip?

Re: Amtrak trip across the country
Long skirts in mid-July seems to be too warmly dressed for mid-July.
Re: Amtrak trip across the country
Don't step on the skirt and trip when climbing the carriage...
Have fun!

Thanks all for the advice so far.
I am from the southeast US, so I am used to heat. I have long skirts that are very light weight & will work well in the heat. I have read that the air conditioning on the train can be cool, so it might be nice to have my legs covered.
I would love to meet up with some others, but I will be traveling with my wife. She tolerates my dressing, but would frown on me meeting others.
I have stairs in my house, so I am used to hiking up my skirt to climb stairs.

If you are making a trip across country wearing skirts on public transport and in public facilities -- you are going to be "meeting" thousands of others; what is the distinction in meeting someone else who may also choose to wears skirts? I'm baffled.prw230 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 3:45 pm Thanks all for the advice so far.

Do enjoy the journey! [I'd take some 'casual and shorter options if the events, weather, and circumstances may call for more 'fitting' in. (I share your concern about A/C on planes and trains; & I too enjoy a lot of light weight long skirts in our semi-tropical climate.]
