turn ups good or bad?

Post by Barleymower »

I did say I would never wear trousers again but, well I do..
I recently bought some very baggy Chaplin like trousers (pants)
They were about 6" to long so had to take them up. No problem with my new sewing skills.

Question is ..
Shall I put the turn ups back in?

I like the look of turn ups in trousers and jeans but my partner doesn’t.

The only time I wear trousers or jeans is when I rip them up with scissors to wear with a pair of black fishnet tights underneath.
My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist. 8)

I like turn ups Arty, I'm not sure why they are frowned upon..

Turn Ups :?:

At first, I wasn't sure what this meant. Then I recognized "The Concept". When I was a kid,
I rolled cuffs up on my pant legs. That way I could grow taller and still wear the pants.
Farmers wore their work pants that way. This worked until I was about 8 years old, then my
mom purchased new pants more often. Cuffs on pant legs, are great for catching small things,
even pocket change that missed the pocket :D

I had cut the cuffs off to shorten the leg and found some small bits of biscuit and a stone. No diamond rings or loose change.

Catering for myself this past week with SWMBO & 2 female descendants away in the UK, my joy in the kitchen was to don a nice kilted skirt a bit above the knee and get out a large TURNIP from the veg. store, chop up a portion and boil up well with some carrots and sprouts for my evening repast.
Some people refer to turnips as swedes, but they're the same delicious thing.

I'm into proper cooked veggie and the eternal salads one gets served with on the Continent I find a shortcut for them and a pain in the proverbial for me.
To compliment my turnips I recommend a lump of lamb/steak/decent fish and some spud, of course.....and a glass or two of half-decent Merlot or Langedoc, of course.

Yeah, I think they look cool. I remember wearing a nice pair of black jeans turned up at the bottom of each leg and I thought it looked really good. However, when my partner seen me she told me she find turn ups stupid.

I think turn ups look particularly good with Dr Marten boots. I also like turn ups turned up half way up my ankle to show off my fishnets. I sometimes turn up the legs on my jeans when I rip them with scissors to wear fishnets underneath and it’s a good look.

I wasn't quite thinking of turnips Tom although I did have a rather nice leg of lamb last week cooked in red wine, lamb stock, dates and mint sauce. I thought the combination was a bit odd so I gave it a go. Very nice with beetroot couscous and a bottle of Pinot.

That's a good point Arty turn ups with DMs. Or maybe some
Turnips just for Tom. 😀

Around here, "swedes" refers to rutabagas, similar to turnips, but a bit different. Grocery stores often sell them covered with wax, but we have them fresh at our farmers' market.

But in some places (including Scotland and - I guess - Ireland), "turnips" usually refers to rutabaga: hence "neeps" with haggis are swede/rutabaga, not the little white and purple things.
