Hello from Indonesia!

Hi everyone! My name is Bintang, I’m a 22-year-old guy from Malang, Indonesia. I’ve been wearing skirts at home for the past 2–3 years, though I haven’t worn them outside yet due to the social stigma where I live. So for now, I only wear skirts when I’m home alone. Currently, I have 7 skirts and 1 kilt in my wardrobe. Thanks so much for having me here!

Welcome. I thought a sarong was a traditional Indonesian garment. Am I wrong, or are they only for special cultural occasions these days?

I'm from Southeast Asia too and I usually wear a sarong out in place of shorts. I am slowly normalizing the idea of skirts to my family and the argument is that sarong is a traditional outfit in our region so there shouldn't be any stigma attached. In fact, I sometimes see Indian workers wear sarongs on weekends as they go about.

The sarong is such a versatile garment. You can wear it short, long, pleated, however you want. Sometimes I wear it to my ankles for more formal occasions. Sometimes I fold it up and wear it high as a mini just for kicks. But most often I have it just above the knees like regular casual shorts. And it's ridiculously cheap. I can choose from many different patterns for just $3!
