It's been in my mind because a few weeks ago I got a new skirt and it's nothing overtly special, it's just a cotton cargo skirt but I just love wearing it and I've been trying to unpack why. Not that I need a reason, but I tend to start analyzing the "why" of things at times. I think maybe because it's a "stealth" skirt...not fundamentally different from the "dad" cargo shorts I wear but in skirt form. The fabric is a little thinner and softer and the pockets are a bit less voluminous but still serviceable. The little bit of stretch in the fabric around the hips reminds me I'm wearing a skirt, but it's nothing fussy or dainty or susceptible to wind-induced wardrobe malfunctions.
Skirts that make you happy?
Skirts that make you happy?
This is going to be one of those random threads
but do you have that one or two skirts that always makes you feel good/happy when you're wearing it? Is it something new or an old favorite?

I wound up getting it in a few other colors this week just to have some variety.

Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I would say two of my dresses do this. The marine blue one I made myself and the blue one with lots of patterns on it. The skirts are usually more practical but the dresses make me happy even if I'm in a poor mood.
Not alone with a dream, Just a want to be free, With a need to belong,
I am a skirtsman
Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom
I am a skirtsman
Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom

Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I would say that there is no point in wearing anything, voluntarily, that makes you less than happy.
Choices again!
My personal favourite skirt is the first one I tried on in the shop quite a few years ago.
My favourite all round all time mood lifting dress is a red and white dotty shirt dress which Susie gave me on my birthday.
In general terms, I am happy being able to choose what I wear freely.
Steve.

I can't a dress that i like, feels good, looks good and fits.
As for skirts, i have never kept a skirt I thought i could get away with. Except the tarten wrap. I get lots of complemets when i wear that.
The like the rest of my skrits equally

I like all of my skirts but if I had to pick a favourite it’ll be my black tennis skirt. Tend to wear it with a white and black stripe t- shirt and black trainers. With everything co-ordinating so well, it’s an outfit I feel that I not only look good in but fell confident in too which makes all the difference when out and about in public.
With recent weight loss it’s felt rather loose lately and was falling down a bit when rushing to get the train back home when I wore it for a concert the other day. Treated myself to the same skirt in the next size down (12) off Vinted, looking forward to that arriving and hoping that it fits ok.

Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I have quite a few favourite skirts. My favourite is my maxi black tiered skirt and a purple knee length skirt I got in a charity shop a couple of months ago. When I bought it the girl at the cash desk told me she loves the skirt. Another favourite skirt is a maxi raspberry red tiered skirt I got a couple of weeks ago. As for dresses I love my t-shirt mini dresses and a dark bluish purple paisley pattern dress I bought from another charity shop which is beautiful.
My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist.
Re: Skirts that make you happy?
IMHO, almost any skirt I wear, makes me happy
I don't like tiered skirts or dresses. The 'seams' tend to make my mind think that the skirt
was put together, piecemeal, out of left over material. Almost like a Patch-Work Quilt,
but without the careful consideration of where the 'parts' go, as in quilt making.
In the heat of Summer, I enjoy wearing "swim-skirts".
(Skirted swim wear bottoms, with sewn-in bikini briefs, not 'boy shorts'.)
I'll need to order some replacements for my "swim-skirts" after loosing 70 lbs, they
don't fit well. They'll stay up but, if I'm mowing the lawn, they have a tendency
to go "South" on me
This is the first Swim Skirt I purchased, almost 3 years ago

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0811S1HKP?re ... in_title_4
Any sleeveless Tank, or T-shirt, works with this 'minimalist' coverings
This style of "Swing Dress" is fantastic for cooling air flow (I have several
)

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Time-and-Tru ... 5009830531
Wearing this, in a gentle breeze, is wonderful
( I can't be mistaken for a woman with my balding head and chest-length beard
)

Re: Skirts that make you happy?
Been enjoying the responses here! I was going to post a pic of the skirt I was talking about but there's some negativity here for people who don't show their faces in photos. Here's one from https://www.lee.com/shop/womens-ultra-l ... D1230.html
I tend to stick to the the more "trad male" colors (earth tones) but one day I'll probably branch out a bit.

Pricing is about average yet, IMHO, a bit high for the "lack of material" coverage.
I like it but, for this older person, it's too short

Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I get that, I'm 6'3", size 16 and on me it's about 2.5" above the knee, which is about where my shorts would be so I've been ok with it. My mail person (mail lady?) said I looked nice and cool today (we're in the middle of an early summer it seems), so I'll count that as a win.
I think a t-shirt dress of a certain type would really work for me, at least around the house, but I try to keep my wife's sensibilities in mind. She's been very accepting.
Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I think all my skirts make me happy but in different ways. My work skirts are all quite run of the mill, but they allow me to work in a skirt, which makes me happy. The rest of my skirts either feel good, look good, move well, some all three. All make me happy.
I guess above the general happiness, there are standout skirted outfits that top the tree and lead to happy days out.
My latex outfits are always special http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtop ... 95#p263795
The long skirt with petticoat experiment was great fun http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtop ... 32#p264132
I really enjoyed my day out in a short orange skirt with ruffles http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25232/
Generally I am happy in any skirt, even if I am having a bad day on other fronts.

Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I bought this when it was on sale a year ago (Lee occasionally has 40/50% off sales). It's a skort, and has built-in shorts. I've worn the Caramel color one a few times - haven't worn Chambray yet - it is short but with the shorts provides plenty of modesty. I wouldn't say, wear it to work, but for running an errand it is fine.Uncle Al wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 6:36 pmNICE looking skirtFLbreezy wrote: Here's one from https://www.lee.com/shop/womens-ultra-l ... Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I sort of give my skirts a star rating from 1 to 5 base on comfort and look. I have many skirts with a five star rating which I guess are ones that make me happy. All different styles and colours.
My name is Anthony, please accept me for the person that I am.
Re: Skirts that make you happy?
I cut the shorts out, it wouldn't let me quite wear it at the natural waist without. I'll have to dig out a photo and see if y'all think it's too short.
