Honestly, every Elder Scrolls game that isn't Morrowind is either extremely outdated (Arena), far, far too limited by the technology at the time (Daggerfall), overly-curated to the point that literally EVERYTHING scaled to your character's level and its RPG mechanics severely dumbed down to the point that it barely feels like Role-Playing Game (Oblivion), a shallow dumpster fire which continues the series downward spiral of being a shallow Action-Adventure game, rather than the RPG series it was supposed to be (Skyrim), a bloody MMO that never needed to existed, and some spin-off games which range from mediocre to just plain bad. I honestly had no idea how this franchise was ever popular. Morrowind stands out for being able to balance out a more focused design, while still being extremely liberating.

F12 will save a screenshot in bmp format to the main directory of the game.
If you install Morrowind Graphics Extender XE and Morrowind Code Patch (dependency) you can both bump up the graphics and also take screenshots in png (aswell as fix a bunch of bugs left in the game by Bethesda).

It's different for me. First, I had to go to the Morrowind.ini file and change the "0" in "Screen Shot Enable=0" to a "1". The Print key was also the key I had to press to get screenshots. Still, I got a whole bunch of them. I would display the most relevant ones here, but I can't attach these images because they aren't displayed for some reason. I don't really want to use imgur, but it might well be a platform I'll have to use later on.

That's all I'll say specifically about the Elder Scrolls. Don't want to derail this thread too much. Feel free to add to anything I posted here.

Starting out with a kilt is such a cool nod to classic adventurer styles, and it’s fun to see how they’re adding unique touches in Tears of the Kingdom.

I’ve been hooked on it lately myself, just wandering and discovering all the new things they’ve packed in. It’s funny how games can pull you in like that; when I switch over to Apex Legends, it’s a totally different vibe—intense and fast-paced! If anyone here is into getting a bit of an edge, I’ve heard about some apex legends cheats that add a whole new level to the gameplay.

I haven't played TOTK, but the design of the 'kilt' from screenshots looks more like a kind of wrap mini skirt, its worn a lot shorter than Scottish kilts are.

I have not played any Zelda games the last 20 years, but Link has gone through a lot of changes. When I grew up he was always bare legged with a green tunic/mini dress with a leather belt. Then came the superhero tights and now it looks like the tights have been replaced with pants.

My adult daughter has gotten me in to Disney Dreamlight Valley and I've been so impressed that all the clothing is available to and works with both male and female bodies. Skirts, dresses, whatever...if it exists you can wear it and it matches the body mesh.

That's true, they did a nice job with that one too. The DDV character models more more detailed vs. Animal Crossing though, I was kind of impressed that they went through the effort to make each item match with multiple body types.

Maybe you and your son can explore the cultural significance of the kilt together while enjoying the game, it’s a fun way to mix gaming with learning

My wife found another game, Portia, where all clothes go on all models, though most of the skirts are a little to short for my taste.

Meanwhile I'd just like to post some pictures from Civilization VII, they did a god job on the male characters here putting them in historicly accurate garb. Augustus and Pachacuti really stand out.

Does this thread not more rightly belong "Off Topic", Mods?
While I find these graphics intriguing, even outfit inspiring and correct historically. I doubt their relevance to MIS today.
Each of the last illustrations show skirt or dress style garments which were gender normative for their period in history so are "normal"
On the other hand, if we could we have a Xerxes Lovelace as an example, that could open a whole different can of worms, chain of thought.
Sadly, the implication is that many guys find their fashion freedom locked up in phones and tablets, never mind closed doors and curtains.
That thought is certainly not a happy one, nor conducive to the emotional well being for the individuals concerned.

I was looking for this thread in the advocacy sub forum but ended up having to search to even find it. Offvtopic would be fine too, but I think it belongs in advocacy.

After all, the game devs could just as well have put all the characters in trousers, or cropped them at the waist - they have gone out of their way to make them full body and history accurate and it does expose the idea of skirts/dresses on men to a lot of young men who might try it out. After all, no one is going to mess with someone that looks like Xerxes or Pachacuti.

Hi Seb,
You could have a point here.
In the past, I have railed against the celebrity / social media influencer effect on MIS, I see how this could be potentially different, maybe positive.
My main misgiving is that the young skirted warrior gets so entrenched in the cyber space safety of the game that he stays within it, his "comfort" zone.
As for the other less climatically friendly outfits, some folks, me included could be jealous of the body they ventilate.
Time will tell.

I did not know before this adventure began that ALL clothes started life in the men's wardrobe. When i found out, i just accepted it. In way believing it and not believing it at the same time.
Then i had a (duh).moment with Ugg Boots. I saw a reddit or quora type post titled "is it ok for men to wear Ugg Boots?". Ugg boots became a massive fashion must have for women here. I know that. What i didn't know is that Ugg Boots are made in Australia since 1974 and are designed for men and women.

I don't think that anyone would have any problems wearing any kind of historic 'men's skirted clothing' in public in any setting because it looks natural on the male body and clearly isn't any attempt to imitate a woman', although yes it would look 'costume-y' in most settings.

The goal should be 'what kinds of skirts look natural on male people'. If people just started ignoring gender norms, those norms would cease to exist very quickly.
