I can also say that finding a good counselor can be life changing. There is no shame in talking to someone who is properly trained to help people.

I can say too that staying married for 42 years is not easy. You have to be committed to it first of all. Then be willing to work together.

Of note is that longevity of a relationship isn't necessarily an indication that it will continue. I had that happen to me last year when I was awakened into a nightmare by an armed invasion of my home invited by my now very ex- partner whom I once adored.

Time does change people, and I suspect that she was feeling the tendrils of early-onset Alzhemer's, but that cannot forgive what happened. In any event, whom I was living with at the time was not the woman whom I fell in love with a quarter-century before.

Long-term relationships are all about compromise, wisdom, and compassion. Without even one of those three "legs" the "stool" will fall over. Inescapably.

For those who enjoy long-term relationships, I'm a bit envious. I thought I had one once. That dream was dashed last year.

I hate that for you. It seems like if a physical (mental) deterioration is involved it should be easier to understand and deal with, but it really doesn't do much to soften the blow.

You mentioned an "armed invasion" of your home. BTDT. In April of 13 that happened to me with result that I caught three .40 Black Talon rounds: two in the stomach and one in the chest. Lost some intestines, and have residual pain from one that penetrated the floor of my pelvis. And I have a great surgical scar from pubis to sternum to go with the tale of the night it rained bullets.

It was a seriously bad time for us, but God is gracious and has made us better than before. So who knows what your future will bring?

Well, rather mixed fortunes recently. I had a BIG heated, but mostly one-sided, discussion with MOH about me wearing a skirt out of the house when I went out to a shop in a skirt. She is still against it. BUT I have made a baby step in this regard. Our back garden is fairly enclosed and we have been doing some work out there, removing a pond liner, general weeding and filling in the pond hole ready for levelling and paving to make a patio area, but to get to the side gate from our front door I have a short walk in which I am exposed to neighbours. Now that doesn't bother me unduly but it's a big issue with MOH. Anyhow the weather has been very warm and sunny recently and as I have insisted on wearing a skirt to do this work, she is not happy. But at least no arguments or sarky comments. She has put some strawberry plants in an old wheelbarrow in the front garden and she asked me to look at them. In the front garden. This is the front garden that is seen by most of the street. For a few minutes at her instigation the whole street could see me in a skirt, not that there was anyone around at the time to see me. So not a biggie but a baby step.

One potential landmine. My youngest son's two children have come up from Bristol to York to live with him full time. These are the ones whose mother was the most uncooperative and vindictive ever. The ones who, as far as I know, don't know that I wear a skirt sometimes. So this will have to be managed carefully as I don't want to spoil this opportunity for my son as I know this means the world to him and is something he has worked for for some years. She could always change her mind and I don't want to give her any excuse to do so. The two will be starting school tomorrow a couple of days later than the rest so it is looking good.

So mixed fortunes but I feel progress nonetheless.

At home I generally wear denim or camo skirts around the house, in the garden or anywhere on our property --> we live in a very secluded spot; you can't see any neighbors houses in the summer - in the winter, without leaves on the trees and bushes, I can easily see two neighbor's houses and the road abutting our up hill driveway.
Congratulations to promote the use of skirts for men
Best regard; It would be very interesting place on the albums of old family photographs; where men dressed in skirts appear; before the trousers are used in different cultures; and they can be published, I think this would greatly help to overthrow the paradigm.

The irony of that double standard by women, Carl, is that if we dared ask whether wearing jeans and T shirts makes a woman a lesbian, they would laugh, and say its okay because it is accepted fashion, despite it having been lifted from men. The sad part of the irony is that the bias against something traditionally feminine on a man implies a negative association with feminine apparel, revealing their own sexist bias against their own gender. After all, if women construe a negative image in garmenture that (falsely) implies femininity, then women must regard their own gender negatively, as if inferior. Sad and thoughtless, really.
This is my best and most effective argument; if someone can translate it better would be very good; and it has worked very well.
I'm trying to translate with google translator. Hopefully someone can do a better translation.
Traditionally men have always had dressed in skirts, only 300 years ago that forced them to wear pants.
The pants are the least suitable garment for a man; the boxer shorts, serves as the splint on his genitals, (promoting malfunction, and disabilities), the center seam of the pants abused, bruised and uncomfortable all the time the genitals; strap or belt acts as a tourniquet, and forces the heart to pump blood more effort (to overcome the contraction that makes the tourniquet), and poor blood supply affects: the digestive system, urinary system, the apparatus reproductive. In addition to the use of pants man has finished peeing standing which is totally unnatural. Skirts and dresses with skirts for men are supreme-mind HEALTHY, convenient and comfortable. The pants, the tight underpants, the center seam of the pants, and belt or belt, are promoting modern diseases of men: impotence, infertility, prostate problems and possibly cancer of the testicle.
No part of the male body are abused more than the genitals.
For better health and comfort wear skirts or dresses with skirts.

Thanks for the post! I do tend to still pee standing up however, even with a skirt on. In today's modern world of new diseases and common restroom facilities, I tend to avoid sitting on a public toilet seat whenever I can.

Regarding other health problems, note that though we often consider this a "man's world", the fact is that it's not, nor has ever been a "man's world". Yes, a small number of men have ruled the world over the centuries, however men in general, have always been regarded as expendable. This sentiment carries into the modern day. Western women, though still have their challenges such as the wage gap, are however still considered the "fairer sex", and are more protected in society. Don't believe me? Challenge one in a court of law.... Look at our policy on conscription (the draft). The fact remains that now, as always men are essentially work horses, and when we're used up, off to the glue factory we go! If one of us drops dead, generally... nobody cares!

And our modern day "machoism" seems to promote these ideals in young boys. When they grow up they are proud to sacrifice all for a populace that couldn't care less about them.

You say skirts are good for men's health? Society says "humph.... who cares about men's health!"

Men are like Chinese appliances, cheap, effective, and short lived, when we break, take us to the dump.

I have always said that a dog has to get up early to beat a cat for quickness... I think the same applies to man,- a women's wiles will always seem to get a man to do what he doesn't really want to do--probably something to do with letting the man get his box opened. I have every respect for a woman- apart from unloading 29 ton of paving slabs handball, really physical work, they can do all what we can- in most instances better.

Nothing wrong with that! Just fair treatments and fair judgements... that's all I'm asking.

I've seen some women who can run circles around men in labor intensive task. In fact, I've found that many women are tough as nails.... when they have to be... They've mastered the art of making us believe they are at a disadvantage in physical strength. Thus we do the grunt work. But make no mistake, my step grandmother lifted a '55 Bel Air off her husband when it fell off the jack, and everybody knows the most dangerous wild animals are the mothers protecting their young....

NEVER underestimate a woman! :)

The past few days have been the hottest ever this year with temperatures in the 80's, old money. With the humidity being quite high it's been scorching. Today has been my day off and to try an placate MOH I wore long shorts as we were gardening and in particular levelling off a patch of ground about 8ft by 12ft and laying some 2ftx2ft paving stones down. Needless to say that after about 30mins my legs were sweating so I took a breather, went indoors and changed into a black denim type skirt about 4in above the knee and went shirtless. No comment from her at all. I felt a lot better and cooler. I'm not fooled into thinking that the battle is over and that she will now be ok with me going out in public in a skirt - it's a baby step and a minor victory that's all.

And yes MOH can generally get me to do what she wants me to do through use of various methods but using incentives generally doesn't occur to her. If you need to ask what incentives then you are not a man with their particular way of thinking!

Moh has found a new solution. As she slimmed down she can't wear her own skirts anymore and now wears mine... It's a way of doing... Bad thing about is that we agree that my skirts suit her better than her own...

That can work reasonably well so long as the two of you don't wind up all "matchy-matchy" with each other. If she looks and feels good in your skirts, then it's likely a win for the both of you.

Lucky you. Here in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, USA area hot means temperature in the 100's degrees F (upper 30's to lower 40's degrees C). If we had temperatures in the 80's F (upper 20's C) this time of year it would be cause for celebration. And oh yes, we do have a lot of humidity. Right now at 1100 local time it is 92 degrees F (33 deg C).

A make relative has just had a clear-out of all the clothes that are too small for him and they were passed to us to sort, fold and bag for the charity shop. There were jeans, shirts, T-shirts and some hoodies. Virtually all the items would be too big for me but there were a couple of items where the bagginess wouldn't matter. But I digress. There were two pairs of denim shorts that I didn't even look at but it appears that MOH is interested in trying them out and if liked shortening them. The irony hasn't occurred to her yet that here she will be possibly wearing actual men's shorts. supplied by a man and yet sometimes viciously verbally attacking ME for daring to wear a skirt. She hasn't tried them on as yet so I'm silent until she decides whether she is going to choose them or not. I'm hoping she does and I'm certainly not going to mention the inconsistency even though it is very tempting to do so. I do want to stay in this relationship. I may drop a hint or two though. Very subtle, like. You know me, the epitome of discretion. I must admit that I feel quite satisfied inside and, I .... don't know .... quite .... how I feel, .... really .... but sort of .... happy.
