Out and About -- In the World at Large
Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Well I happened upon the Vancouver Pride Parade on August 2 as I was going through Vancouver. The parade was a good event to take in as many folks were wearing what they wanted to. I had a pair of shorts with hosiery a pair of shoes on. Once the parade was over I went back and changed into a knee length grey summer skirt and my Scarpa purple shoes and walked all over the West end, had a snack a couple of glasses of wine and enjoyed the afternoon. I did not get one comment or hint of a comment the whole time. So given that it was a pride parade it was the perfect time to wear a skirt, plus many people were seeing all sorts of males wearing heeled shoes/boots, dresses and much more. So me wearing a skirt was not unusual sighting, in fact a great time to wear whatever you want. Vancouver is very good for this. Fun day!

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
A new record for me... a whole week without pants. Of course it helped that my wife and I were vacationing at a nudist resort, but going and coming was in a skirt. Also the fishing area was viewable from off the property so clothing was required, and the short skirt served the purpose. I think a skirt is lucky for fishing, anyway -- I caught some nice fish daily.
Back home yesterday evening, but today I went to church in a forest green utility kilt, then back in a regular skirt the rest of the day. Back to work, and pants, tomorrow.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
At the beach with my wife Sunday, I finally got noticed! But not for the black skirt I had worn over swim shorts. A very pretty (tres hawt) young lady who was sunning next to us asked me "Are your toenails painted?"
I replied, wiggling my toes, "Yeah, its a pale green, but looks almost silver in bright sun."
She said "I thought they looked very glittery, but I wasn't sure. But,yeah, they look awesome! I like it!" I thanked her for noticing and spent the afternoon reveling for the brief attention of an amazingly beautiful young woman given to this unspectacular old man. She had the deepest tan I think I have ever seen, and there is something very sexy about a college-age girl adjusting her bikini... But I digress; it will be a topic of daydreams for a while, I think!

Last sunday I took my brother Frans to a terrace for lunch. The weather was perfect and it was not easy to find a vacant table but Frans eventually did.
I look much older than I am and that is the result of 24/7 continuous pain through my entire body plus the resulting sleeplessnes.
An old lady sitting at the adjacent table suggested I was taking MY SON to an outing but my brother is in fact 2 years OLDER than I am. An outright insult of course but I am used to that.
What she apparently did not notice was my skirt. Remarkable, isn't it?
Jan.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Since moving to my home in Scottburgh I wear my kilts a lot more often. The other day I was in line at the pharmacy when
I heard a female voice behind me say "is that a kilt you are wearing" I turned around and said yes it is, it's a cargo kilt (camo) she said it looks great and said she don't know why more men don't wear then, she said she used to do Scottish dancing that why she recognised it, then asked where I got it I told her I made it myself, that seemed to stun her a little. Then she said that she owns a shop in the next town up the coast and I must go see her sometime, with that I left.

Sounds like you may have a distribution point for your cargo skirts/kiltsmelsav wrote:Then she said that she owns a shop in the next town up the coast

I'ld say "Go-For-It"

Yesterday, I went to see a movie at a large (24 screen) multiplex, then went to a nearby large mall where I had lunch and strolled through the place for nearly an hour. While I dressed sedately, I did get a fair number of stares and glances, still, I was, for the most part, left alone, treated like just another shopper enjoying a pleasant afternoon at the mall.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Bought an intriguing skirt at Old Navy on Saturday, a 28 inch muted green plaid A-line that was light and airy and tailor made for summer, so I took it out for a spin yesterday and I certainly enjoyed wearing it, I even got a compliment from a lady my age who said I looked nice. How cool is that?

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
The wife and I went to a film at Thalian Hall tonight. I was dressed about as simply as I ever am - a black Woolrich stretch skirt, just above knee-cap length, a long-sleeve white T-shirt, and black flip-flops. The wife, of course, was in capris.
The film was 'Mr. Holmes' and one of the best films I have seen this year, though you all in the UK have no doubt seen it long ago. Ian McKellen's performance was incredible. I recommend it highly.

Shame you didn't wear your skirt on the cut (boaters name for the canal), I've been wearing mine for the last few days on my boat without problem! I've find most people don't seem to care much, even when I walked into the Tesco's at Warwick I didn't have any issues.Big and Bashful wrote:After a week on a narrowboat wearing jeans, which were slowly disintegrating, it was great to change into my favourite denim skirt for the journey home. After some3 comments one of my mates made about my previous kilted exploits I decided not to skirt during the trip. They are good friends and I don't want to alienate one who has very conventional standards, it may be humour but I don't want to take the chance.
Cheers,

A year or three ago I did spend a whole week on the canals wearing a kilt, which was extremely comfortable but that was where I picked up on one of my mates being rather less accepting than I would have liked, only one or two comments but hey, I haven't got that many mates and don't want to push my luck.
I have also headed out on my yacht for a week of single handed sailing and didn't even take any biforcated clothing with me. I had a great week, but somewhere warmer than the Scottish west coast would have been nice. I would love to spend more time on the canals and envy you! Keep skirting!

Me wearing a malong at a beach resort during a vacation trip a few months ago:

There was no problem with other people, except some curious stares, because apparently they know what a malong is, it is just they do not often see someone wearing one. On the other hand, my friends with me during the trip liked it!

Took part in a sponsored walk today, to raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland and in memory of my Mother, who died of dementia in 2002. I decided to do the walk wearing a black cargo skirt. Got quite a few sideways looks, as you can see in this photo take by my wife as we set off. But mostly either ignored, or approving smiles from the women.
