Skirtcraft Kickstarter is Live

Post by finrod »

Hello,

The Kickstarter campaign for Skirtcraft launched a few minutes ago. This purpose of the campaign is to raise funds for the first production run of skirts, and part of it is that if you back the project at the skirt reward level ($69 + $9-18 shipping), I'll send you skirt. If the project does not meet its funding goal of $11,500 in 30 days, you will pay nothing.

Detailed steps for backing the project, which might be particularly useful if you haven't used Kickstarter previously:

Thanks again to everyone here who has given me feedback and encouragement over the past couple of years!

These will be nervewrecking days surely, Joe. But 21 backers in such a short time is encouraging.
As I wrote before, I am not interested in a black skirt but who knows when the goal is met, the next color might appeal to me.
In the meantime I am going to try and persuade the people from Kickstarter to open a PayPal account. By not doing so they will "disable" a lot of potential backers.
All the best, Jan.

All the best to your project.
Just curious, why not show a single picture of the product on a model without hiding the upper part under the shirt? Why not show at least some pictures with a tucked in shirt.
If I was buying any garment on-line I would definitely want to see the whole garment in some pictures.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've just added a couple detail shots of the waistband with a tucked in shirt. You'll find them in the Gallery section near the end of the page.

Such a smart looking skirt. For those of you who are really comfortable in skirts please, for the love of God, contribute. MANY OF US, need this skirt to become a reality so that we can more easily convince others and ourselves that it is okay and not abnormal to wear a skirt. Some of us want to be able to say, "yeah it's a skirt and it's made for me". Once we are able to easily go out in a skirt built for us it will be easier for us to go out in any skirt. I contributed and signed up for two.

Gordon, if you're willing, could you email me your size info at joe@skirtcraft.com? It would be helpful in planning for added sizes.

I'd appreciate hearing from others whose sizes I'm lacking, too. Thanks!

I've signed up for one, and given the likely delivery time, it will be my Christmas present to myself.

That's at least two coming across the puddle then... I have also committed to order one.

Have fun,

Ian.

I've just given my pledge and ordered one - so that's a third one coming across the pond!

The black colour I would accept, but will keep my eye open for other colours when it does become fully committed to production (Royal Blue for instance might be my choice)

And here's a fourth one - I gave my pledge yesterday. :)
Hopefully we'll get a warm Christmas this year or I will be shoveling snow in it. ;)

Well with the help of my wife I've gone and done it! I've put my money where my mouth is by supporting this fine effort to produce a skirt for men. I hope that in the not too far distant future that we will see them for sale in the men's departnent of the mainstream clothing stores.

My thanks to Joe for having the courage to launch into this and making it happen. Well done sir!

BTW did you ever hear the tale of Henery Ford quipping "They can have any color they wish as long as it's black."?

Ok, who's next to drop something into the hat?

Even thou my size isn't covered in the initial size range, I told my wife about it and she said to do one for her. So we are a contributor as well.

Thanks, Uncle Al. I just found out about LegStyle a couple weeks ago. I agree; he does a really good job. Of course, my opinion is rather meaningless since I'm likely biased by his positive review. ;-) But honestly, he's just very frank and doesn't care what anyone thinks. Up til recently his blog seems to have been all about tights for men, but in the last few posts he's hit onto the idea of skirts and also heels. A couple posts earlier he's got a great story about wearing a skirt to work - quote: It wasn't until he was talking about how hot it was outside, and how he was sweating balls, etc... So I said "you should try wearing a skirt like I am, and you won't have that problem!" He looked down and said "Holy crap, you're wearing a skirt.. I didn't even notice!" :D

I'm trying not to post here about the project too much because I know this site is not meant to be about promoting products. But I wanted to say thanks a lot to the many people here who have backed the project. It's really moving to see!

You may have noticed that the project's growth has slowed markedly in the past day or two. For those who want the project to succeed: don't worry too much about the slowdown. It's common and natural for a project to have a big influx in the first couple days as people who have been waiting are finally able to support the project. In fact, from what I've read, most successful projects have a U-shaped growth pattern: fast at launch, then a relative lull for much of the duration, then another rush during the final push. This article has a section discussing it about 1/3 of the way down.

One way to think about it is that for the remaining 26 days of the project, there just need to be 3 skirts' worth of pledges on average each day, even without a spike at the end.

Of course, I don't want to rely on a theoretical rush of backers in the final days, nor do I want to just barely make the goal -- I'd rather get well past it in order to meet the order minimums needed to support multiple color options. So I'm focusing now on reaching out to media, bloggers, and groups to try to get more attention to the project. In the case of LegStyle, though, he reached out to me, so it was just luck on my part.
