Ties and skirts/kilts

Now that our Summer is gone, the idea of migrating South to Malaga or thereabouts is growing in appeal. My wife on the other hand finds Autumn a stimulus for renewed work in the garden, ours being the non-automatic, do-it-yourself variety and she wouldn't countenance a trip South to the Sun.

I managed to shoot off a couple of pics which might appeal to the critical among you, in that the shirt, like the belt is now black and the knee-high socks are a better colour.

I also discarded the tie &c for the casual look and also just for the fun of it donned thick tights & a 17" mini!...Strictly for the garden, I might add.

The lake surrounds are looking a tad autumnal and our water table is at an all-time low.

With the jaunty pose and hat in the first picture, I find it not altogether difficult to see that man waltz out of a B&W 1940s spy or Private Eye flick. Awesome job.

Well, you look razor blade sharp to me..... just thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth... We are having beautiful weather here in Oregon, but that will change pretty soon.... I have heck with the other half, so I get along with my kilts but the end of the world would come if I showed up in a skirt... go figure....! I hope you make it to Malaga.... Kilted Bob

Showed up Where? In my house or in her line of eyesight.... She is from an extremely, very, absolute, positively conservative household... As she gets older, and in poorer health, she has become very negative.... I have a shop away from the house, so I do wear my denim skirt out at the shop.... It is a shame that this mindset is so hooked on and basis their convictions on "old wives talk"... "Old wives talk" is more valid than scientific fact... She finally came around to my wearing a kilt, so I get away with that...going out in public with me in a kilt though she won't...period...! KiltedBob

I did not realize how lucky I was, but reading how so many of you get opposition from your wives and partners, I can see that my wife was surprisingly open-minded.
She liked my kilts from the start and never objected to my wearing them out and about or at family gatherings, for example (the rest of her family just put up with me and never made any comments!).
She was less enthusiastic when I began using non-tartan wear (home made wraps at first), but did not try to stop me, and even accompanied me out and about in plain straight skirts.
A supportive partner is definitely an asset when moving into the unbifurcated lifestyle, but not indispensable.
Retrospectively, I wonder whether she really noticed what I was wearing!

Mrtn, you are so very, very lucky. I disagree though as a supportive partner, all else being equal, IS indispensable. I guess that there are many of us out there whose spouses are intolerant of skirt wearing outside of the house ( or in some cases inside as well ). MOH barely tolerates my skirt wearing and won't countenance outside of the house, yet. But in that respect I sometimes get to the stage where I am past caring about it and when she isn't about I certainly wear a skirt outside. No-one else seems to care but she is the centre of my universe so I need to respect what she thinks and says even if I don't agree.

I think she is ok with kilts as she bought me one. What beats me is that I can wear other gear bought from the other side and she isn't bothered. Of course there's Halloween coming up in which I WILL be skirted and I will try and use this occasion to introduce my skirting ambitions to as wide an audience as I can. As far as I am concerned the more people that know about my skirting the more it undermines her objections. After all how can she object if EVERYONE knows that I like to wear a skirt, you may ask? I'm sure that she will find a way!

My wife has seemed to come around as well. Lately she has been very complementary, and has even offered me a couple of skirts that are now too big for her. The real clincher happened the other night when were sitting on the couch and she groped me under my skirt.

Well, I can only say that you all are very lucky to have wives who go out with you in public and don't raise heck with you... She does now accepts the kilts and I wear mine out and about in the home grounds.... There probably would be a funeral if I went out among the general populace... I did go for coffee with a fellow kilter and it was not a cold reception when I got back home... I can say I didn't need to turn the "air conditioner " on as it was quite cool from the reception I received when I got back....LOL Next week I need to go to the next town, and it's all day trip and I plan to go kilted...Needless to say I shall be probably traveling alone...! In all fairness to her, she grew up in a small country town where "real men" wore jeans and a white shirt and cowboy boots... even to church and formal get togethers....! She is 80 years old and I believe (I know) she is set in her ways.... I am 2 years younger, and still open minded so sometimes communications and actions don't always fly well! I noticed one gentleman says he wears a bra... Good for you... If one needs support that is what they are for.... When I am on the road in my truck that beast bounces like crazy, and I too wear one...Otherwise the rubbing and chafing is beyond bearable... So,.... lets keep on kilting, and as was once quoted years ago...DAMN the torpedoes, FULL SPEED ahead.

'Tis truly a shame that some folks cannot seem to put random prejudices out of their minds. If somebody cannot accommodate in their mind that a kilt -- especially if worn "all up" -- isn't a man's garment then there's likely no hope.

Jeans and t-shirts to church? That sounds rather "trailer-park" to me. Much like high-heels and jeans.

My word, how far have we sunk?

Damn the torpedoes indeed -- if our own engines are good enough we can outrun the bloody things! (Or could have a century ago.)

That has happened to me in a romantic and non-threatening situation - but because I hadn't expected it, it created a horrible feeling. I can well understand why women intensely dislike that sort of horseplay and some of them give it as one of the main reasons why they don't like wearing a skirt. Any man who think it is just a bit of harmless fun ought to try being on the receiving end of it for a change.

In all fairness to her, she grew up in a small country town where "real men" wore jeans and a white shirt and cowboy boots... even to church and formal get togethers....! She is 80 years old and I believe (I know) she is set in her ways....

And in all fairness to you, is she so set in her ways that she still wears the same clothes, to church or elsewhere, that she wore 60 years ago? And does she object to other women having changed to trousers in that period?

I beg to differ. Around the house I wear dresses. And my wife reaches up under my dress and gooses me at random times. And we both laugh because I think it's funny. If she doesn't goose me for a long time I get worried I did something to make her angry.

Goodday Ladies & Gentlemen:

I count myself among the fortunate ones who have a wife who accepts my kilts out and about and tolerates the skirt within our trailer and yard. It hasn't always been that way and it took years and lots of positive experiances for her to move from the intellectual asent to an active acceptance and support. I'm reasonably sure that in time the skirt will become a part of the "out and about" wear too. I will not push it though as I'm comfortable with letting it happen at a natural pace. If it never does I will accept that and take it in stride.

Carl I believe you did not intend to slur those who live in trailer parks but just to let you know we're just folks and can boast of as many professionals as any housing development. Yep we have our share of the intolerant and their ilk but the majority keep their places and yards up and cheerfully help out the kilted blind guy when need be. "wink"

I hope I have not percieved harsh or unkind by my words for they were not intended to be so.
