iPhone app to see if the weather is good for skirts

Post by Orca »

We in the Netherlands have some more trouble with the weather than people in warmer countries.. With our soft winters and rainy fall and spring we do not have many warm days that are perfect for skirts. (sometimes this is referred to as 9 months of fall and three months of summer.)
To help us poor people some Dutch folk have made an iPhone App 'Skirt Alert' [https://itunes.apple.com/app/skirt-aler ... 97710?mt=8] . It can show you if the day is suitable for wearing a skirt. Of course this is targeted to women but the app is also recommended for men to see if women are likely to wear skirts. We can use it to determine if a certain day is good enough for wearing skirts ourselves..

During the day it will show if it's good choice to wear a skirt and after 18:00 hours it will show the recommendation for the next day. If also has a forecast screen where the next 4 days are shown. Because of changes in the predictions the information can be different each time you open the app..

The App supports multiple languages and is very easy to use.

Dear Orca,
thank you for sharing this skirt promotion App. However, I am wearing my dresses during German Summer and Winter.

The Scottish equivalent was easier to program, we only need a screen that says NO!

But I wear them anyway! much more fun when there's a decent breeze and I am used to rain! The Sun and heat are things that I've read about, they seem to happen to other people!

My personal favorite is the short skirt and because I don't like pantyhose, stockings or leggings I prefer nice weather to wear skirts.
so in my case this app is worth the space on my phone..

As far as I can see there is no such app for Andriod.

Perhaps because we Android users are smart enough to use a regular weather app (or maybe just look outside?) and determine for ourselves if it is good skirting weather?

That is an app I can live without. For me it is Unbifurcated, rain or shine.
From experience of the last few days, I can also say that woolen kilts stand up very well to the rain, even on a bicycle.

Why not just look outside before you choose the skirt of the day?

Because when some of us get up in the morning it's too dark to see anything outside?

I usually consult with a weather forecast the night before when I'm trying to figure out what I want to wear. It makes it easier if I have stuff laid out, or at least planned for the morning. It's just easier that way.

Whilst I don't know precisely what I'm going to be wearing for the week-end, I already know it's going to be warm to hot which indicated lighter stuff than if it was going to be cold and wet.

Nice app., bit I wouldn't bother with it, not that I have an I-phone, mind. Met- Eireann changes its forecast several times per day, which of course makes utter nonsense of any 'long term' ditto.

Heat & Sun...well, we're not complaining this year. We've had plenty of it, lasting well into the Autumn. Daytime temps have slid gently into the upper teens now, which is still very pleasant indeed and I, for one am looking forward to baring my knees again this w/end.

Since we can get a range of weathers in one day particularly in the changeable seasons of spring an autumn ( and summer and winter to a lesser extent ) consulting weather forecasts or even looking out the door only gives a more immediate view of the weather. What's good for the morning my be a mistake for the afternoon. Take this morning, first bit coldish very cloudy with a hint of rain. By midday it was brighter and by two o clock it was brilliant sunshine and quite hot. So today there would have been at least one change of skirt. As Tm says our local forecasts can change over the day. I suspect that those of you in the more coastal regions have the same problem as the weather tends to come off the sea.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

22°C and light showers sounds like perfectly good skirt weather to me. Who wrote that app?

Probably an android user... ;-) Since I'm 100% skirted (been that way since March), this app would be kinda useless. Not that I'd use it anyway, since I tend to trust what the sky to the west of me says than what the weather guessers say either on a weather app or on the idjit box. Look at the sky, if there are clouds, check the radar map and see if there's rain. If it's warm and wet, wear a lightweight skirt with trouser socks, if you need legwear. That way, it won't be intolerable. If cold and wet, heavier skirt (or layer two or three skirts, warm top, heavy wool socks, boots, if snowy, etc. Sunny and hot, then, same as the warm and wet, except don't bother with an umbrella, and maybe swap the shirt and skirt for a dress to provide more cooling to the upper torso area.

It strikes me that, regardless of the forecast, deciding if it is indeed "skirt weather" is still a matter of opinion. Is there some massive survey database of Dutch women expressing the climatic limits for their clothing choices? Who decided what is or isn't skirt weather?

Yeah, I use a device for this called a window. If the world hasn't ended I wear a kilt.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.
