do you wear tights or not

I do wear tights (always opaque) when weather dictates it. Actually like the feel of them.

I see many commenting that it conflicts with our hard earned sence of freedom. Well, if I can be very practical for a moment, I tend to fix that problem by simply cutting out the crotch section. Usually this is an in-set piece anyway, so that its removal does not cause ripping or laddering of the surrounding tissue.

But more often, I wear stay-ups, hold-ups, or whatever you want to call them. I am surprised not to see them referred to here. Any fear of them sagging, sliding, or falling down is in my experience unnecessary when you manage to get the right size for you. I can walk for hours in the city without need to adjust them even once. Extremely comfortable and very practical (when one gets damaged, replace only the one). In my experience they are warm enough for all but the very coldest days. My only wish is that they would be available in heavier fabrics than 60den which seems to be the maximum commonly sold in supermarkets. I have seen a few, but they tend to be rather expensive (for example, google 'Kunert Velvet 80 Stay-Ups').

Hi Charles,

Good to see you posting after more than two years as a board member. How about a brief introduction to help us get to know you?

Have fun,

Hmm, tough question. I'm an avid cyclist so I spend a lot of time in spandex. I have shorts, knickers, and tights, for various weather. I also wear running tights if the weather demands (but I'm not running much these days due to ageing knees). Mostly with kilts I wear either hiking socks or kilt hose - it just seems right - and I only wear non kilt skirts at home when it is warm enough to go sans tights. As I said, tough question.

Holdups are great if you want air around ones box, but you need to be hairless at top of leg where the holdup grips. I get some really thick holdups from Asda, ( Walmart ), for £3 a pair, sometimes 2 pr for £4. These can be patterned or not, depends on what you want and what you want to pay.
With skirts, I will normally only buy cheaper ones ( £3-£8) tops. I did pay out £23 for a box pleated skirt in Cranberry colour, but only that once. 25 inch length.
Back to tights- 100-300 denier tights under thick jeans or leathers mean you don't get so cold on a motorcycle. I wear tights all the time. I like the feel on my legs. As it gets warmer, tights get thinner, and vice versa.

Always wear tights with my skirts. The only exception is when it is really hot. Fortunately, I have not very heary legs but that does not really matter, because when you wear tights they have a nice cosmetic effect. And in our Northern European summers, summers are often not to hot. Then I wear thin types of tights. in winter and autumn opaque 40 or 50.

Off topic, but you brought it up.
The wavy lines are probably thanks to your browser. I use Firefox and I know it keeps a lot of typos out of my posts. You should be able to switch to a British English dictionary to solve your problem. 8)

Nope, I neither have nor wear any tights when I'm "skirting."

I like to wear tights in the winter, but usually go bare legged in the warmer months (from October to about now).

I have reasonably hairy legs and only wear skirts which fall just above knee length. As I think that seeing my leg hair under tights looks a bit untidy, I wear 50 den black with dark colour skirts or 70 den tan under light colour skirts.

I really never understood what was or is wrong about men’s hairy legs. Therefore I have never felt tempted to conceal or remove mine.

I have also several times in forums read that men might remove hairs on their legs because they made wearing of tights unpleasant. I never experienced such problems.
Wearing tights or leggings is for me only about keeping my legs warm at very low temperatures and I do certainly prefer bare legs.

I have worn and still do wear tights but that is only as a barrier to winter conditions. Then I wear 60-80 den, black, dark blue or dark brown ones.

In summer (and warmer spring/autumn days) I prefer no tights and let the air get at my hairy legs. And by warmer, I mean temperatures about 12-14deg C. I do tan fairly easily (and don't burn) so the white spindly things are not so evident once the sun has got at them.

For golf, I normally wear shorts in the summer months (knee-length to mid-thigh length - the shorter the shorts, the warmer the weather! ) so the lower half of my legs get the sun. I would like to try a suitable skirt for golf but not sure how my mates will react - they always have a bit of good-natured ribbing at the shorts. :?

(For the US folks here, shorts mean short-length trousers not underwear. :P )

I wear tights (pantyhose), leggings, or hose (stockings). Due to a need to keep some compression on my knees and lower legs, I have on some form of tight legwear almost all the time. This has been since an industrial accident many years ago. Thinner in the summer, thicker in the winter. beige or black most of the time. In the dead of winter I tend to wear more colourful leggings over the tights. No one seems to notice the leggings anymore than notice the skirt I am wearing.

The tights are a normal part of my daily wear. I do not have much leg hair except where the stay-ups bands would land. I just do not wear stay-ups. I tend to wear at least a knee length or longer skirt when wearing stockings and braces as I really do not like the straps to show.

My family feels that I made the right choice to wear skirts when I needed to start wearing the tights. Far better for my health, and better access to visit the loo.

Cheers

Sure do. Apart from a few warm days allowed us by this arctic driven climate, I wear them most days. I don't know if at nearly 67, there is another upcoming medical problem, got the old prossie C, angina and borderline diabetes already, but still in great shape  , but find I need to keep my legs warm.
As someone earlier said, holdups are good in that only one need be replaced in case of a hole. Just have to keep tops of legs smooth for them to grip.
300 den tights are brilliant under leather jeans when out on the motorbike- especially when the temps are right down. Wind chill, as in all things is, the killer.
Apart from that, I like them. Look good with a tidy skirt.. IMO
First post from me for a good while. :) :)
