Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Hi Derek,
The guy in the chainstore was likely following a "dress code" with the leg wear.
More power to him as retail employers are probably the most conservative of the lot.
I must admit to being curious as to the shop in question?
Steve.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
I was out on a construction site and was driving back through Edinburgh, Oxgangs area when (I think it was outside the library there) I saw a number of men and women outside an arc of balloons outside the entrance. Quite a few young kids were there as well.
One of the men had a shirt and tie - and a full length dark purple skirt. He was chatting to a couple of other men and women, none of whom seemed to be bothered.
Looking at their website, the only event on was "Make a Kite" day at the time I was passing.
So that makes a half dozen sightings I have had (That's not counting men in kilts - of which there are many more). This is becoming a hotspot!

Sounds like Carl on a dress up day.skirtingtoday wrote:One of the men had a shirt and tie - and a full length dark purple skirt. He was chatting to a couple of other men and women, none of whom seemed to be bothered.

I wonder how he got to Edinburgh given his dislike for flying.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Wife and I saw a guy walking along the road in Langport, Somerset today. He was wearing a mid-calf straight brown skirt with a wide black belt.
We'd been to the NT property at Barrington Court. I wore a purple sarong which really came into its own when the sun came out and the temperature rose
We were in the car and at first we thought he'd tied his jacket around his waist because the weather was so hot. As we got closer it was obviously a skirt.
I've seen several men who have tied their coats around their waists and have mistaken it for a skirt. Perhaps unwittingly they're help Joe public get used to the sight of a man in a skirt, if only pretend

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Just back from holidays (in Skiathos - Greece) and waiting in the airport terminal building to go home, when Mrs ST saw a man in a skirt! (actually a camouflage coloured UK).
He got on the same plane as us going to Manchester - and coincidentally sat in he same row as ourselves, but on opposite side of the plane.
If you are on here, good to see you, sorry I couldn't say hello and hope that seeing you encourages more to "take up the habit!"

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Today I was out in the state of Tennessee checking out the model train show and their vendors. On my way home I stopped at several stores to look for a skirt(i found 2 by the way). Well I found two that i wanted so I bought them. Well during my searching between my second and third stop I got call and my friend asked if I got the pictures she sent me. I said I don't know I'm driving(I don't text and drive). She said you really need to look at them. I was like okay gimme a few minutes so I can stop. She said okay hurry and that it was a picture of biker wearing a skirt in my hometown. I was thinking to myself yeah she is just pulling my leg here and remembering the picture I asked her to fix for me last night. I was thinking she probably cropped a skirt on the guy. Well I stopped at my 3rd and final store. Checked the pictures out on my phone and what did I see a guy wearing what looked like to be a pleated skirt. I responded and said that is very very cool. I asked her to email the pictures to me so I could see the skirt better. I never did get to see the front but only the back in the pictures and after looking really close I started thinking that looks like a utility kilt in a way but at the same time it still looked like a pleated skirt. So which ever it was it was pretty cool to see someone in my area kilted or skirted. You never see that in small towns in the mountains of Virginia.
I can posts the pictures if you guys would like to see the garment. If so they will be in the pictures section.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
SF, so physically he's about as ordinary as possible. Clearly trying to make up for that with some interesting clothing!
Any chance of him posting here to say he saw you in skirt, or were you trousered each time?
Has anyone ever, while wearing a skirt, seen another skirted man? (Organised skirty gatherings and formal kilt-friendly events such as weddings aside.)

Yes, once, although it may not count. On this past summer's sailing trip to Provincetown (MA/USA -- a whole different planet) there were three shirtless guys in white terrycloth micro-minis passing out promotional items of some ilk. I did not bother to investigate further. I was wearing one of my tiered skirts and a regular dress shirt.skirtyscot wrote:Has anyone ever, while wearing a skirt, seen another skirted man? We need to train the Skipper to pick some time other than "Bear Week" to go to Provincetown.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Yes, SS, I have, more than once.
Only a few weeks ago I left the supermarket in my jeansskirt while a guy in a UK was about to enter. His little daughter said: "look dad, another man in skirt!".
In the Hague a few years ago I saw a man in a jeans skirt and he saw me. He looked the other way to avoid some sort of contact.
Last year in downtown Leiden I saw a guy in a pleated skirt. Lots of shopping people but nobody seemed to notice him.
In Amsterdam, the place to be, I have seen skirted and kilted guys more often.
Things have changed in Mensskirtland since I started wearing skirts some 39 years ago. To the good!
I feel like a trendsetter.....

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
From experience, I do not necessarily regard that as a hardship; rather, it provides a nice bright line between the working hours and the times when one is off the clock. This is especially useful if one is not as happy at his job as he could be.straightfairy wrote:I am at work and required to wear trousers.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Reading this has actually brought an incident to mind which I had actually dismissed.
On a skirted outing, I saw three guys in kilts. We're in Scotland, hence the dismissal but they were obviously not used to the "one tube".
They were also not of European lineage, may actually have been Americans, no idea.
I actually wish I had talked to them now.
Does this count?
Steve.
