Menskirts in the UK

Post by skirted84 »

Does anyone from the UK think its long overdue there were things such as utilikilts in just a selection of shops or at least somewhere within an hour or two. As mentioned in another thread buying online has risks and is expensive if from another country. It may be a pipedream to have a 'utilikilt rack' in Marks or John Lewis down the road but surely we can see these things more widely than its Seattle store. The closest we hav e in Glasgow is the 21st century kilt, which much as I admire Nicholsby for his efforts, is still expensive and not much of an everyday garment. There are also cheap imitation poly/viscose which are such poor quality they are even itchier as wool, but at least cheap and lightweight.

My compromise is to buy unisex looking womens/girls skirts such as denim or school pleated, but the fact remains they are 'female' skirts.

I have been happy to order from Midas skirts in Manchester, still not cheap, but tailor made to order.

Not having been able to raise their website recently on the Net I did a search and discovered that the company registered as Midas Clothing UK has been dissolved. A great pity.

If this is true, then it is a large pity indeed!

However, I was able to raise the website at http://www.midasclothing.com/ successfully a few moments ago.

B&B -- You seem to be in touch with Lance. What's going on? (I hope it's good!)

I too managed to raise the midas website a few minutes ago.
Also from the UK there still is Wales-based www.kilts.org or Union Kilts. They recently introduced a new line: Brushed denim kilts.
These kilts feel and look like Utilikilts but are less expensive.
It is a pity the light blue denim kilt is no longer in production, otherwise I would have bought one.

The Midas Clothing website is available, that's true. However, news are dated 07/08. That means nearly five years with no activity, and accordingly it does not look like a business up and running!

To be sure this morning I sent an email to info@midasclothing.com and asked them if they are still in business. It is as simple as that.
If I receive a reply I will let you know, of course!
A few years ago I ordered a Midas jeans skirt and it was quite good.

A few hours ago I received a mail from Lance of MidasClothing stating they are indeed still in business. The site is not up-to-date but they are working on that.
That's good news!
Keep on skirting, lads...

The next question is: Are there any physical shops in Londen selling mens skirts?
Many years ago there use to be a designers market called Hyper Hyper, opposite to Kensington Market, selling mens skirts.

(Kensington Market is forever in my mind, I really loved it. The scent of insence, I can still smell it... Those were the days, my friend, I thought they 'd never end.)

But times change and Kensington Market kind of dissolved in Camden Market. Great place too, I was there last August. No stalls selling mens skirts, unfortunately.

I have had a reply from Lance, who is part of Midas, here is the reply:

Hello Phil
Yes, we are still in business. There are some amendments going on on the site which may have caused some down-time and I've been skiing for a few weeks but we are receiving and completing orders.
But thanks for your concern and support and would appreciate your confirmation of our ongoing helthy status on Skirtcafe
Very best wishes for the New Year
Lance
midasclothing.com

I am so glad my main skirtmonger is still at it! I have suggested that someone from Midas might like to join the cafe, it might be good for their business!

A couple of days ago I went onto Ebay and dragged myself away from denim to order:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI. ... TQ:GB:1123

I just felt I need something which isn't a kilt, isn't denim and is somewhere around knee length. Not sure about the front zip, but I should find out before too long.

Excellent, B&B! I hope it is more of a success than their long one which you tried a few weeks ago.

I see they are "specialists in erotica" - do let us know how it makes you feel!
Keep on skirting,

They do that one in XXL, I messaged them through Ebay and they said it would fitmy 44" waist, we'll see! Oh, and it might get me feeling erratic, that's as good as it gets for me these days!

I'm sorry, but midasclothing looks well down and out. I got similar from Lance a few years ago. Any moderately serious business would keep their website roughly up to date, and give phone numbers that actually work. Cottage industry indeed.

What about seeing similar things in high street shops. I believe it has been tried for obviously not very well as it didn't last.
