Is it satire or is it .... ?

I'm not sure I can answer that question, and the only reason that this appears here is that the comic appeared in my local paper today and I got a hoot out out of it:

I wonder if they look at their referral logs....

This cartoon got a snort of laughter from me - which is no bad thing, so thanks MB crfiend for posting it. The trouble is you can get all serious & profound looking for hidden meanings in stuff (those of you who took English at school/college/uni will remember all the guff our tutors found in Shakespeare!)

Yes, there is point here about what it is acceptable for men to wear - whether or not it's the tiny crack that starts the wall of entrenched opinion tumbling... One can only hope. If I remember my English classes correctly, satire is meant to point out the foibles & inconsistencies of a society with a view to creating change, so maybe that does make this satire? Have a horrible feeling I went all serious & profound for a moment there - sorry.

Anyway, good laugh, good point. Thanks. :)

Language note. We have to be careful here about terms. In the UK, the term "pumps" when referring to footwear would be these:

Similarly, the British English word "jumper" means something like this:

So it's perfectly normal for a British guy to play golf in a jumper and pumps.

Now, if the figure in blue was to have a female head, then you would see a typically dressed modern woman.

Cartoon made me larf :D

He needs a dress and hose to go with his pumps instead of that dorky suit with the monotonous "bird breasted" look.

If I was captured and forced to wear those pumps and jumper I would be mortified!
