The Magic Lives on

Not so much a new member but more of a returnee after a long absence due to ....................stuff..............but enough of that. Today I was wearing a knee length denim skirt at our North Devon village Christmas fair, as far as I could tell nobody batted an eyelid and everyone was quite happy with a man wearing a skirt. Many years ago I could bear it no longer and bought a denim skirt at Matalan, in a quiet moment I put it on and it was magical, a revelation, I was finally being the real me. And it is still magical and joyful, I am sure you could speculate endlessly as to why I feel like this but does it matter? There are 2 basic types of clothing for the lower half of the human body, 50% of the human population are free to choose to wear either of these 2 types. Should not the other 50% of the population be equally free to choose whichever style of lower body clothing feels right for them?
I do find that I need to feel absolutely happy with a skirt to be able to wear it with confidence, some skirts just do not feel right and have to be moved on to the charity shop but some just feel right. Currently I am wearing a knee length button front denim skirt from M&S, it feels great, fits well and leaves me feeling confident and happy as I say; the magic lives on.

Welcome back, nothing much has changed since you left

but most don't bat an eyelid to "invisible" denim... I wore my black denim maxi skirt to put out the rubbish the other day, no reactions from passers by. It's a shame guys are so restricted in their clothing choices, but for most it's a self imposed state due to what
society expects but every now and then, a hot summer brings the builders and bus drivers out in skirts and it makes the news, so never rule it out

Good to see you have found your way back to the cafe and welcome back!
The feeling on the body of being in the right clothes, just brings a peace to me that makes me content and happy. I now spend many days in a week in a denim knee length working skirt as I term them and as you say, they go totally unnoticed by many, but what ever the day brings, good or not so good, the day still has the gloss on it of wearing a skirt.

Welcome back to the Cafe.
Your story of how you started is so similar to a lot of us and none of us can understand why only 50% can comfortably choose what to wear.
Like you and others I too feel at peace when I am wearing a skirt, coincidentally i'm also currently wearing a button down denim knee length so denim is a popular choice here.
I was on holiday down your way earlier in the year and on the last day wore an above the knee denim skirt and for the journey home with only one double take from the guy behind me when I refuelled the car and no reactions at all in the motorway services or walking around the village before we left.

Welcome back, sellek!
My story started like yours: after years of wanting to, I finally bought a skirt, a denim one from M&S, and it was fantastic, it just felt right to wear it. I still have it, though it's past its best and it has been rather overshadowed by a very large number of more striking skirts.
I wish you success in finding more skirts that feel right. Keep looking, there are so many to choose from!
