Thread locking etiquette

Is it normal for a thread to be locked with no explanation of why? Last night I went to comment on a post and found this thread locked http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25104 No reason given in the last thread.

I have no idea about the etiquette in general Mouse, but I made the request myself to the Mods.
Quite honestly, I saw very little point in it continuing because there is no answer to the "kilt/skirt" question.
Seeing as I started it, my prerogative to end it too.
I'd also like to thank the Mod team for acceding to my request, based on the reasons I gave, which do not need reiterated here.
Steve.

Full disclosure here: I'm the guy who pulled the trigger. Why? Read below.

In that thread, it seemed like everybody retrenched to their originating positions and motion of any kind had become impossible and consisted of a bunch of people talking at one another instead of carrying on a reasonable conversation. Such things are generally a waste of time, and I feel that time is getting precious for this old boy. I was considering the action even before Stevie made the very polite request, and Stevie and I were of very much the same opinion on the matter. Out of deference to his wishes (above), I'm not going to quote him verbatim, but let's just say we were seeing eye-to-eye on the matter.

Since Stevie started the thread he has the right to end it as well. No explanation needed. Our Moderators were asked to do the deed and as good mods they went with Stevie's wishes.
We have the best mods on the Skirtcafe. They do what is necessary and are not like some on other sites and act as dictators.
Thank you to our mods! :D
