He should at least be suspended without pay for a period of time, and not allowed back on duty until he serves a period of probation under the direct supervision of a more experienced officer. The incident should become part of his official record.
I also think both the officer and Chief owe you a written apology.
I agree absolutely with this statement.

To be honest I'd like to see this followed up with at the very least a formal note on the arresting officer's file and some additional "diversity training" for him. However, unlike Skip, I don't have to live in the small town where the officer and his colleagues work and if I were in Skip's position I'm not sure that I'd want the hassle that could result. If Skip is OK with the verbal apology or does not want to persue this any further, that's fine by me.

Sorry, we're well off topic for this thread now, so to put something on topic in here I'll tell you that I'm currently in "work uniform" (black laced shoes, beige trousers, black short sleeved, button down shirt, open at the collar) as I'm in the office but tonight I shall be taking Carole to a show called "Rock Vampires" at the local arts centre. It's a cross between the Rocky Horror Show and a pantomime and will either be utterly excruciating or great fun, I guess I'll know tonight. For the show I shall wear the same shirt as now but the trousers will be replaced with either my tan Utilikilt or a long black denim skirt. I've yet to decide on footwear but will probably go with black suede slipons and pushed down thick black socks that will give me an option to keep warm if it is cold when we leave.

Have fun,

spit spit spit spit ptooey!! did he say TROUSERS???

I can't push it any farther. The Sheriff is a long time friend who's played poker at my house for years and I want that friendship to continue. He'll take care of the young officer.

Funny story, once at my house for poker a couple of years ago, one of the regular players brought a friend, and when I came out of my bedroom he took one quick look at my long blond hair, buttoned shirt and full skirt and asked for a soda with ice. I answered in my deep voice, "Do I look like a waitress? Get it yourself. The refridge is right in front of you!" He must have thought I was an :alien:
Afterwards, we all had a laugh because I probably did look like a waitress to him....LOLOL

Back to topic: I'm wearing the same skirt I was arrested in. Green full peasant skirt with only one petticoat, hawaiian shirt and birkenstock sandals. It's one of my most comfortable skirts.

Sorry Skip, did not mean to cause you to splutter over your keyboard and screen :D I'm currently on a short term contract, which I hope will go permanent in the future, so I am not too inclined to cause the wrong sort of ripples in the office by wearing a skirt. Tonight's show is close to work and there was a promotional discount for staff, so there is a fair chance of bumping into a colleague or two, but as I'll be on my own time I don't see that as a problem.

Fair enough. I suspect the young officer will have learned a lesson he's not inclined to forget, hopefully he will apply that lesson to other folks and situations too.

Glad to learn that you still feel able to wear the skirt.

I think that the young officer soon realized that he had made a very big mistake. I'm one of those rare people who thinks that people can make mistakes, be truly sorry for what they did, and make an effort to change their ways. I also believe in forgiving people.

That does not mean I condone want he did. But with him being a new officer, a verbal warning from his superior will probably have better results that a full written complaint. If he is sincerely ashamed of how he treated Skip, then hopefully that will lead to him being a better officer in the future.

Skip, sorry to hear of your bad experience :( . Hopefully the officer has learned something about diversity and will treat other people who do not conform to societal norms :alien: with respect - unless the non-conformity happens to be illegal :!:

Now, back on topic....

Today I am wearing a pink and black striped slim-fit shirt (by John Francombe from T M Lewin (menswear) - if it's on their web-site you can look it up until I get a photo), black "tulip" short skirt, black opaque tights (sorry to our US cousins, I don't like the term pantyhose) and black knee-high boots. I've just travelled back from Leeds and was so attired for breakfast in the hotel restaurant and throughout the rest of the hotel.

Last Saturday I went for a contact-lens checkup and haircut, for which I wore a blue and white polo shirt, green knee length skirt, brown opaque tights and brown knee-high boots. The checkup was a first - I've previously worn the boots, but covered by tr****rs, but the hair salon is used to me. The stylist commented that she enjoys doing my hair as she gets to "play around" and be creative - my only stipulation is that I must be able to comb it conservatively for work.

Skip,
I fully understand why you don't want to push the issue of the young officer's conduct any further with the Sheriff.

I do wonder, however, what the Sheriff said to him, and what the effect will be on his attitude and behavior.
If the dress-down was along the lines of: That's Skip you arrested! He's an old time local who wears skirts and he's my friend, so don't mess with him again! Then the officer will not have learned a real lesson about not abusing his authority and respecting people who are different.

But at least you should be safe from him.

I don't know what the Sheriff said to him, and I can't find out either. That's not in my place to even ask. I'm sure what you said wasn't what it was though. The Sheriff is very professional and would have not wanted to express any favoritism towards me. He's in his 4th term as our Sheriff and is very professional. There's a problem hiring new deputies in these times. Too many are just back from Iraq or Afghanistan and are used to treating people less than favorable and have to be "un-institutionalized" The Armed Services are all institutions with set ways of doing everything. They (in war) live on a "it's us or them" standard. They have to change that back here. 8)

Thematically this description belongs in the "out and about" category (Wii bowling at the local Seniors' Center, lunch, and the local library where I have offerred my services in a technical capacity for computing needs), but since I'm wearing it as I type this, this seems as good a place as any to describe it.

Yellow dress shirt, my navy-blue waistcoat, a purple/grey plaid-on-the-bias calf-length skirt, off-white cable-pattern opaque legwear, and black dress shoes. The skirt is a new one, purchased just a few weeks ago (the thread on the "Dress Barn" described some of the fun with the procurement process) and works quite well save that it looks like I'm now a sub-14. I need to put some weight on -- that or buy a set of suspenders (braces) with clips on the ends...

Wearing a blue cotton twill straight knee length skirt, Birkenstock sandals, Yellow tank top.. I only wear hose in the Winter when it's cool and cold outside, I have very little hair on my body and none on my legs so hose here now would just make my legs too warm. My sparse arm hair is very light blond and is almost invisible, I'll be 68 next Sunday and my head hair is still the "dirty" blond it's been all my life since I was about 12 and copied my Dad by rubbing Vaseline into my hair to slick it down, (the fashion of the time) but what men didn't realize, and now we all know, is that Vaseline darkens hair for life. ie: Light blond becomes dirty blond, dark blond becomes brown, brown gets nearly black. Live and learn. My dad's hair was dark blond when he was young and later became dark brown thanks to the Vaseline. Without that goop, mine would probably be the same light blond it was as a child. :(

Well now, maybe NOW we all know. I had never heard that before.

I'm just amazed what I learn everyday.

Thanks.

I'm wearing a denim button up shirt and a comfy cocoa colored straight skirt just above the knees along with moccasins for the moment in the coolness of the morning. I'll put on a denim knee length skirt designed to look like shorts from 'Blassport' and a tank top with sandals for my day out and about.

Interesting. In my case, my hair naturally changed colors. When I was little, I had blond hair, then it became auburn colored around the age of 8.

Anyway, outfit is currently a dark blue Columbia sportswear logo t-shirt, black pleated above-knee skirt, with gray sheer knee-highs below. Got an ingrown toenail on my right foot, so anything thicker would be uncomfortable when I'm wearing shoes. So, today's outfit will be this, plus a parka and athletic shoes. Visiting PetsMart for some dog food, then may do some other things while I'm out...
