Far more spectacular than the Rockies is the trip through the Sierra Nevada range. That is an absolutely breathtaking run where for parts of it you look to one side of the train and it's a sheer vertical wall of rock and looking out the other way there's nothing but open space looking out over valleys. I've done that twice, and it largely still follows the route of the original Transcontinental Railroad. Headed eastbound on that route is also very nice on the long sweeping descent into Denver where one gets to look out across the plains from a couple thousand feet above.
The Amtrak Empire Builder train from Seattle/Portland to Chicago east or westbound is timed for the full exposure and beauty of Glacier National Park !
Another spectacular trip is the Amtrak "Coast Starlight" from Seattle to Los Angeles especially the segment north of Santa Barbara where it is the only vestige of
civilization following the coast line for about a hundred miles. At San Luis Obispo the train makes a hugh "U" turn and you can see the front of the train almost looping
back on itself.

"Skirt-Kilt-ON"

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I enjoy the train discussion, but opened a new thread "Traveling by train" in the Off Topic section for non-skirt-specific railroad musings!

When I heard about skirting, I jumped in with both feet!

From 39,000 feet there is little better than a googlemaps-eye view available and certainly no wildlife!

When I travel on overnight trains I always got a sleeping car roomette. One of the perks is that meals in the diner are included in the fare. If you are less than four in a party, the person in charge of seating the dining car will put you at a table with others to fill it. I am not naturally outgoing, but I had several good conversations with people from the UK touring the US by rail.

Yesterday was just another day "out and about in the world at large", save that yesterday I picked up a couple of new computers and a small disk array from a chap that I'd been conversing with on the Computer Rescue list. He was not expecting a bloke in a skirt to show up to pick the gear up -- nobody expects a bloke in a skirt -- but not only was nothing said, there weren't even any second glances, and I'm sure that a lot of people noticed the stranger in their office-space!

Rig: Purple dress shirt, red double-breasted waistcoat, black tiered skirt, red tights, and black dress shoes.

Now I need to figure out a way to get the new machines into the house without Sapphire seeing them.

Soooo. I'm out and about, in the world at large. Specifically, I'm at work. The sky is still up, the sun is shining and it's a lovely day. I went out for a walk at lunch time. I spotted a couple of looks, but it was, by and large, business as usual with people out for their lunch-time walks in peace and sunshine.

Another successful outing for a guy in a skirt.

Hi Paul,
Good for you and here's to many more.
I went for a hair/beard cut on Saturday and the hairdresser asked why wasn't I wearing a skirt on such a nice day.
Steve.

We'll done Paul!

Any official reaction at all to your skirt? What sort of place is it?
Keep on skirting,

A little ribbing from co-workers, all good natured.

No official reaction from the company. I'm an electronic engineer, so I work in a very informal environment dress-wise. Most people are in jeans and t-shirt most days (unless it's really hot, in which case they're in shorts and t-shirt). For the most part, appearance is not really a consideration, as long as decency is maintained. Also, I've been here eight years, so the people are aware that I'm at the quirkier end of the spectrum.

I had such a nice day yesterday that I'm skirted again today. Weather forecast suggests that it's back to the denim two-pipes tomorrow, though.

Congratulations Paul on your venture. I too hope you have many more!

Sounds like you've got their approval and thumbs up - well done to you too! :thumright:

I have on a couple of occasions been for a haircut at the local hairdressers whilst skirted (no tights) but other than a quick look down the first time, no comment was made at all. 8)

I did it last week - a skirt to work. It was a blast. At lunch I go to a local sports bar, everyone loved it. I swear, skirts are chick magnets! Here is me at work. Got the skirt on Ebay, absolutely LOVE it. Wearing my favorite boots, Marcie 4" from Payless.

That is a good look, congratulations! I do like denim skirts- their jean style pockets are so much more manageable and practical than those on conventional jeans. I have eight denim long skirts, of which three are Levis. You might be right about being "chick magnets" but, at an age closing in on 65, and already attached (and a grandad), that's well in the past.

That's a nice skirt and you wear it well. However, it looks a little too long to be comfortable and practical.

The skirt pictured has, like mine do, a hem far enough from the floor not to be a trip hazard and as for impeding my stride, there hasn't been an issue there (and I don't take little mincing steps) as the walking slit is okay for me.

To get back on topic, I have just returned from the ANZAC services at Allora, where I wore a mid grey box pleat skirt with a short sleeved green half button shirt tucked into it. I stayed for the supper at the RSL hall later. It's 98 years since we landed in Gallipoli and held, for some time, a small foothold on Turkish soil. The day now commemorates, and honours the memory of, the fallen in all conflicts, up to and including Afghanistan.
