Thank you! We're just getting started working with the professionals (formal pattern, fabric sourcing, etc) right now, so the kickstarter campaign is still a few months off. If you'd like to receive occasional updates as the product progresses, you can subscribe at http://skirtcraft.com. We also post photos and info on our facebook page from time to time: https://www.facebook.com/skirtcraft.chogan1975 wrote:I am coming late to the party, but this skirt looks great with some of the samples you have been posting. I would be interested in getting one my self once it becomes a product.

I keep coming back to both your web page and FB page...looking at the photos. What I'm seeing could almost be seen as a kilt...but less. Since I'm neither Scottish or Irish the idea of a kilt is a little wrong, and going to a women's wear store for an off of the shelf number still feels too feminine to me. You are in the middle. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Good design and website
Try a google+account the more exposure the better
Best of luck to you

The newer. nontraditional kilt variants aren't associated with any particular ethnic group. You don't need to be Scottish or Irish to wear such.

Thanks, mark47. If you like you can subscribe to email updates at http://skirtcraft.com; I send an update about once per month. Right now we're finishing up materials sourcing and beginning creation of the formal pattern. We plan to have a Kickstarter project up in a few months, and the first skirts will be available through that. Unfortunately it's a bit of a long process when you're starting from scratch, but hopefully the end result will be worth the wait.mark47 wrote:I keep coming back to both your web page and FB page...looking at the photos. Re: Survey for possible new skirt product
Here is a progress update on the skirtcraft skirt (which I just received by e-mail). Things are moving forward...
Skirtcraft Men's/Unisex Skirt
Progress Update - September 2014
Hello Skirtcraft supporters!
We've selected the firm Clothier Design Source to help us guide the Freethinker Skirt design into a product ready for manufacturing: sourcing materials, converting the rough pattern into a formal one, size grading, manufacturer identification, and other steps required to deliver a high-quality product. CDS was featured in Apparel Magazine as a top innovator of 2013 for their success in helping aspiring designers like us. You can read some press about them here or here.
The contract has been signed, materials selection is being finalized, and patternmaking is starting. We expect to be completely ready for manufacturing in a few months, at which point we'll launch the Kickstarter campaign through which the first skirts will be available. We wish it could be sooner, but are taking the time to ensure a quality product. Your patience is much appreciated!
As that moves along, we've begun a second design: a shoes-length skirt that's a cousin to the Freethinker. It has the same modern/unisex/pocketed/comfortable/sturdy aesthetic, but has some different elements to compliment its longer form. Once we have a decent prototype we'll post photos. This second design is a lower priority, so it won't under any circumstances be stretching out the timeline for the first design.
We're also thrilled to have been invited to participate in a local artist showcase! We hope to have men and women on the runway showing both the Freethinker and the newer design. The event is a recurring one, and we're still working out which month it will be possible.
We'll continue to send updates about once a month, or whenever there's big news. Thanks!
Joe
