1. When is Fashion Week?

This is probably the same Fashion week sapphire is talking about, as it will be at Bryant Park in NYC.

2. When would we need to get promotional material out?

Getting promotional information I think should be done at least a few weeks before, if not a month in advance. That gives ample time for people to know whats going on and where. Assuming its the first week of February, this would mean that promotional stuff should start going out by at least the first week of January.

3. When would skirts need to be finished and models working with them?

This begs the question, how much time would be needed at each stage for skirt production: initial design, critiquing, fabrication, any revisions, etc.

We have maybe a month and a half at most. Promotions could start while the skirts were in post-production. It would be best to leave 2-3 weeks between final production of the skirts and the event.

4. When would we need to have final outfit designs and models recruited?

Final Design? That depends highly on how long it would take to make the skirts. It would behoove us to choose something that isn't too complex/obscure that it would take a long time to get materials/make.

I would recommend that if we are going to make skirts, we have a preliminary 1-2 weeks to hammer out rough designs. After that it would be easier to determine the Final Design timeline.

Model recruiting? Good question! Whether we could get enough members here to model or if we would need to hire some guys is a critical question that should be answered soon.

I don't think we really need "professional" models. Hell, we could do with some blokes who are confident enough to showcase the skirts and answer questions. We don't need $50 an hour models to do this.

5. When do we initially recruit for designs and models?

ASAP! The sooner recruitment begins and ideas start coming in the sooner they can be worked.

6. How long does it take to get relevant permits from NYC?

According to this, it says permits take about a month to process. Since Fashion Week is First week of February, the permit would have to be applied for no later than last week of December.


This is going to take a good coordination between many members here to pull off. However, I think even a small skirt fashion show could get a lot of good press.

Get those creative juices flowing and post ideas!

There is one burning question, which "style " would be shown? As anything even resembling, suggeesting femme, may be misinterpretated as travestie.

But on the other hand, if it is all well chosen, a mix of styles would go down well, as nearly anything can be shown on the catwalk. And if it is understood that it is actually a catwalk show, showing the different possibilitys for a cross section of male skirt wearers, then all should be well. A showing of only very strict "manly" skrit dressed wearers would be counter productive to the whole "movement" for freedom of choice with clothing, with the centre point being the skirt.

I think your second paragraph is a perfect descrition of what a show like this should be: Normal males waering a variety of skirted fashions that reflect their male personnas. Not homosexual, not transvestite, just he man next door.

An alternative presetnation that I was thinking about was a setting of a "skirt cafe" with men coming into and showing their styles and all getting along, as men. This is what I meant by performance art, rather than a striict runway show.. It could include a short contra dnace set, a short ballroom dance set, a skirted man on a bicycle entering the set, a male skirted computer technician maintaining the set, etc, etc. After all Bryant Park is only steps away from the theatre district.

Sapphire, your ideas aren't crazy at all, they sound pretty neat. I am reminded of something a friend told me once- "Don't call them dreams, call them plans!" It sounds like you have a plan well under way.

Well, great idea for sure!

Why not look at todays cargo shorts-
Kilt it up a little- on the sides sort of hidden in the seam (pleats come together at top) so while standing they sort of fold under and open to allow ease of walking or running
Leave the pockets and fly as it and skirt out the legs.

Maybe, kilted like Utilikilt, BUT - leave pockets and fly the same, use normal clothing materials (Utilikilts are made way to burlapy) same as todays cargo shorts - call it a Skilt.
