Summer...to shave or not to shave?
Re: Summer...to shave or not to shave?
I shaved during the winter months and stopped shaving in early March. The hair still hasn't grown back. I'm Asian-American.

I also shave about every 3 days. Been doing that for years. For me, it's just another part of taking a shower.moonshadow wrote:Still shaving every 3 days or so.... still loving it!
Something I found out that works well is, instead of using soap, shaving cream, etc., use hair conditioner. It leaves your skin feeling real soft. I haven't done the math to see which is cheaper but I think conditioner would be if you get a large bottle of it...

I have not tried that and I have a couple of bottle around the house left over from when I had hair.

I use a product called Ultra Glide Shaving Oil and it's cheap, comes in a very small 15 ml bottle and I only use 2, yes 2 drops, so a bottle lasts me about 6 months as I only shave every 3 days. I have sensitive facial skin so if I try and shave every day with foam or gel it iterates ( irritates ) the skin and I have soreness problems.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Always have shaved legs and underarms. Legs are not that noticeable, but the undefarms might draw some attention

Geez. I have enough trouble tolerating leg stubble for two or three days. I'd have to shave my pits daily to handle that stubble.Tracey D wrote:Always have shaved legs and underarms. Legs are not that noticeable, but the undefarms might draw some attention

Ha-Ha ... I thought you might. I'm glad I started shaving again. I had stopped for years & ive been shaving practically daily for 9 months now. I seriously doubt I'll ever stop. It just feels too damn good.moonshadow wrote:Still shaving every 3 days or so.... still loving it!

Re: Summer...to shave or not to shave?
Yep... and I'm due for a shave tomorrow. I normally get the whole deal done, face, legs, belly and pits at the same time. I don't have a lot of "chest" hair, most of it is just on my belly, but I whack it all off. Not having hairy armpits has really been nice too. Looks a lot better when wearing tanks.
Personally, as arm pit hair is very coarse, I was somewhat concerned about ingrowns, but so far, I haven't had any.
My leg hair shaves up real good. The hair has always been somewhat thin, and not very coarse like many mens. However it has revealed a lot of scratches and scars from days gone by.
I just use the regular Barbasol mens shaving cream with aloe for the whole job. I actually find that it seems to make my skin softer than with regular women's shave cream, and is slightly less expensive, I do however use a good Venus blade though, none of those cheap things you get in a pack for a dollar.

The best thing I've found for clearing up the scars and dark patches from healed cuts etc. is a hand and body lotion called Amlactin. It's expensive (about $18 per bottle) but it does a great job.
As far as razors go, I like the Gillette Fusions/ProFusions for shaving my face so I got a 2nd razor and reuse the blade cartridge I have been using on my face for my legs. I change the legs cartridge when it makes too many nicks on my legs. That way I always have a really good cartridge for my face and still get my money's worth from the blades.

Re: Summer...to shave or not to shave?
I've been shaving my armpits for several years now. Never had any issues with ingrown hairs. I noticed that when I shave my pits I don't have and issued with perpetration and smell from my underarms.
I only shave my legs spring and summer when I spend more time running around in shorts and skirts. Ill probably be shaving my legs more since I like the smooth look of my hairless better than the hairy leg look, but then I have fine light colored hair on my legs.
My chest if dark brown hair and I only trim is as needed.

I've got a bottle of Amlactin and only use it for my hands. Never thought about using to get rid of dark scars, which I've got a few. Thanks for the info!Pdxfashionpioneer wrote:The best thing I've found for clearing up the scars and dark patches from healed cuts etc. is a hand and body lotion called Amlactin. Re: Summer...to shave or not to shave?
I adore being smooth, and honestly feels there's a difference with understm perspiration being shaved vs. hairy. I swear if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to laser my whole body, minus my head hair. I love the feel of my legs against my work slacks, outside in shorts running errands or working in the yard, laying on clean sheets or rubbing up against the wife, 'wink-wink', or sitting on the couch in my skirt. I'm at the point now that I'm probably going to throw all my boxer-briefs away & replace them with either men's bikini briefs or women's bikini panties, of which I'm heavily leaning towards the latter.

Just did my waist to toe shave today and this evening put on a pair of Silk Refections hose. WOW, talk about smooooth legs !!!!!!!
Its been so darned hot lately and I hadn't been wearing any stockings. So this evening it cooled down and Man what a difference it makes with nice shaved legs.

Sheer hosiery on freshly shaved legs is pretty amazing, it has to be said. So is bed linen; that was a surprise when I first got the leg lawnmower out.
I've got a friend who is a very hairy little chap. He has shaved his armpits for years though and swears by it. I'll have to try it out.
