Welcome to the Cafe, maddrummer.
Tell us a bit about yourself, here or over in Introductions. Tell us about your skirt wearing (or not wearing!), how it goes down with your friends & relations, what you wear, etc.

Keep on skirting,

Re: Wearing a Skirt in public ?
I am rarely seen in public in trousers. Usually in a kilt or a modern mens skirt, such as the Tactical 511, or Tripp NYC skirts. These bear a resemblance to a kilt in flat front and pleats to the rear. I have never had a comment about any of them here in Boston, or where I work in Plymouth, Massachusetts. I recently obtained a mens le Faitaga from Samoa, alomg with a Polynesian print shirt. I decided to wear both while out on the usual errands most of the day, with not a comment from anyone. I did get some second looks, but the temperature was over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so I guess it was mostly of envy of how cool I looked.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Wearing a Skirt in public ?
I have a different take to most on here, I think. Most of the time, I prefer trousers. They are far more practical for most purposes - and I like plenty of deep pockets.
I regard sarongs and skirts as leisurewear for when it's warm and I am pottering around the house or garden, watching TV or reading. I used to wear one for walking our dogs but these days I tend to walk them in the woods at the back of our property and skirts are not suitable for these as you are vulnerable to all kinds of nasties like ticks, mosquitos, stinging nettles and so on.
For me, a skirt is an option - something I have as an alternative to the default dress item which is trousers/jeans. Much as I like skirts as an opion, they are not something I want to wear all the time.

This is as it should be. Fashion freedom means, at least to me, being able to wear whatever is practical for the occasion, and I will wear trousers when the need (or desire) arises, however I find that I am skirted more often-especially for comfort. Putting all people into skirts would then be "skirt tyranny" and just as deplorable as the converse "trouser tyranny"Stu wrote:For me, a skirt is an option - something I have as an alternative to the default dress item

How many fancy definitions of kilt do ya know? Oh, it is not a kilt just a knee long wrap arround skirt with pleads at the back and double apron at the front which appears to open at the right hand side.I am rarely seen in public in trousers. Usually in a kilt or a modern mens skirt, such as the Tactical 511, or Tripp NYC skirts. These bear a resemblance to a kilt in flat front and pleats to the rear.

Except some laughing chicks no one seem to care about my Sport Kilt. Don't try to cycle in it, unless you like to press or iron it.
