Re: Philosophical beliefs in Equality Act

This mainly applies to UK members and anywhere with comparable laws on philosophical belief. Essentially it stems from religious protection from discrimination but going further to recognise non religious beliefs which are similarly sincerely held (it actually states in those words or close to). Fo...

Re: Fourteen Percent of Men Wear Nail Polish?

Why would any guy want to wear nail polish? I simply can't get my head around that one. I'm all for grooming - I wash, shave, comb my hair and occasionally yank out the odd unsightly nostril or other stray hair which has no business growing in or on my face, but that's about as far as I'm willing t...

Re: Accents

I know Canadian and Australian accents, but would have no clue which part of their respective countries a speaker is from. What are other people's experience of this? Can Americans distinguish British accents? I am originally from Yorkshire and my accent is vastly different from that you would hear...

Re: Pull your socks up!

Or you could just use a garter belt (suspenders in the UK if I remember my terminology correctly). We use a garter belt for men to hold up hockey (ice hockey) socks all the time. Yes, I tried something like that but my socks are so long, if fact they go to the "junction" of my legs, that ...

Re: Good day to you all

Ouch! English is full of traps for a poor French speaking guy like me! As I wasn't sure of my understanding of the posts above, I innocently opened Deepl on my pc and typed "dungaries"! Well, I hope you're not try to wear that, else I can understand your wife! 😂 One letter changes all! We...

Re: Penny Apples

Yes, unlike the same model motor car getting more miles to the gallon in the UK than in the US. Brining back memories. When I was a kid we were still on the imperial system in Canada. But of course we got American television and magazines. It confused the young mind as two why a Canadian car of the...

In the gym we hefted big weights regularly as rowing training and the Kg was something used elsewhere, we lifted Lbs, or pounds. After devaluation we found the weights just as heavy as before!!

Re: Penny Apples

What a fantastic story. A lot of hard work and a bit of luck and fortunes can turn. When the UK had to devalue the Pound in 1967, was Eire affected? Or more specifically was its currency affected?

Re: Corona Virus

Interesting stuff being put out here. While I am familiar with the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, I wasn't familiar with the separate European agreements on rights. But that is how international law works. Countries come together to sign a treaty/accord/declaration/etc. and then the individu...
