Re: Sad News

I must add my condolences. Carl will be greatly missed, and his appearance in a long outfit was outstanding.

Sadly, I suspect that his demise is related to stress at work and the wider problems on that side of the pond.

Re: Brogue Shoes

I would suggest keeping them and wearing with the skirts. The boots often strike me as being too 'heavy' with a skirt.

Re: "Man" Bags?

And on this side of the pond, a purse is the smaller container holding coins, notes and cards. The larger item, carried or worn over the shoulder is a bag.

I did a quick dig via Google, and what is there appears to be fairly old and possibly centred on Australia.

Re: Kilts with internal pockets

There is a company called Utkilts, I believe in Seattle, that offers a 'business edition Utilikilt'. Talk to Brice and see what he can do. The common tartans are available along with various plain colour fabrics.

Re: HVAC question…

As regards running the motor 'light' ie with no load, it will not be a problem with an induction motor, but a series motor with a commutator and brushes can overspeed on no load.

Re: Skirtish kilt

TB, I know they are 'over the pond', but Utkilts in Seattle are worth a look for their custom utility kilts. I have found their 'Business Edition' particularly useful, as it is available in a variety of fabrics, including lightweight plain colours, and has pockets inserted in the seams either side o...

Re: Your Favorite Skirt Length?

At 6'2"(1.88m) I have a number of kilts at 25" length, a couple of modified Macabi skirts at 27" and some Regular/Long Macabis at 36/39". All are worn from time to time.

Re: We're the majority!

It's worth bearing in mind that Saturday was a Pride march in Bristol, which may account for the relatively large numbers of men in skirts.

Re: Kilts on temu

You would probably be better using one of the Scottish suppliers. They will offer 5 yard 'party' kilts and 8 yard 'casual' kilts. Needless to say, the 8 yard versions hang and move better without costing the proverbial 'arm and leg' for a custom made item. Just be prepared for the 'whats underneath'...

Re: Pockets

Utkilts in Seattle? offer a 'utility kilt' in what they call 'business edition' which has pockets inserted into the edges of the front aprons, They are available in plain colour or the 'popular' tartans. They work surprisingly well for the usual collection of keys and small coinage that we all need ...

Re: Skirtcraft wrap skirt on Kickstarter June 6th [2023]

FLB, Yes, I dyed a natural skirt with a bright blue dye and got a consistent result. I'm in the UK and used DYLON which was available in HOBBYCRAFT here. It was designed to be used in a washing machine, so that's how I used it, running several rinses through afterwards to clear any residue from the ...

Re: Skirtchosen

Like many others, these skirts seem to carry an extremely high price, and also, from my point of view not practical because the sizes don't go far enough up.
OK, I admit to being exceedingly large, but I don't think I'm alone in that problem.

Re: Accents

Stu, To put things into perspective, I grew up in South Bristol, so my 'native' tongue verges on Somerset, but I can usually understand most British accents, including Geordie, but must confess that Glaswegian appears to be a totally different language. I also note how 'American' seems to be driftin...

Re: British v American English Grammar

For some time now, I've been thinking that an English/American dictionary is becoming necessary. Trousers = Pants Pants = Underwear Petrol = Gasoline (Car) Bonnet = Hood (Car) Boot = Trunk Bonnet = Head covering (not necessarily female) Boot = High footwear Jam = Jelly Jelly = Water based gelatine d...
